I'm hoping that they move the Comets to the Pacific Coliseum.

it makes sense for us to have an ECHL team in Utica and the Comets on Renfrew and Hastings.

I don't want to derail this thread, but that makes very little sense since the Giants couldn't even get enough people to their games there at WHL prices, and subsequently moved to Langley. Demographics have changed. The crowd that would go to an AHL game (or a WHL game) is now predominantly young families, which have been pushed out further into the Fraser Valley. If, and its a big IF, we were ever to see our AHL affiliate in the lower mainland, it would make far more sense to place it in Abbotsford, which already has an AHL quality facility (from the Heat) and can draw young families from Langley, Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge, etc. I would say the reason the Heat didn't work out in Abbotsford would be the fact that nobody cared to go watch the Calgary Flames farm team. However, it was sold out for every game vs Utica. ;)

Stephen Iacobellis invited per a poster on HFCanucks: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?p=133185763#post133185763

I'll see if I can confirm and track down a better source/report on the invite.

23 yo UDFA. Undersized forward. Born in Burnaby and played in BCHL before going to NCAA (UMass Amherst), where he basically put-up the same numbers every season over 4 years (20ish points per 35ish GP).

  • 2 weeks later...

Gonna bump this thread with the hope that it'll heat up some with post-draft invites of players who slipped though the rounds this year and remain undrafted.

Also, and I know it's kinda off topic, but of this year's crop of undrafted players, who would people like the see invited?

Two come to mind for me:

(1) Ty Lewis: was ranked 59 (NA skaters) and didn't hear his name called. 2nd time eligible. 30 goals and nearly a point per game for Brandon (WHL).

Here's a scouting report/draft profile: http://thehockeywriters.com/ty-lewis-2017-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/

(2) Kevin Hancock: was ranked 91 (NA skaters) and also slipped through the draft. Another 2nd time eligible. Played with Gadjovich in Owen Sound (OHL), with a fair amount of minutes as linemates. Scored 30 goals and 85 points last season.

And a scouting report/draft profile: http://thehockeywriters.com/2017-nhl-draft-5-forgotten-prospects/ (Hancock appears 2nd in this feature)

I'd be happy to see both Lewis and Hancock invited.

I like the idea of inviting quality undrafted players who've been passed over twice. There's a small window where you can sign these guys and it would be good to get a close look at both of them before that window closes and they head back into the draft (or to consider them for 2018 late round overager picks).

These are also two of the more highly touted 2nd time eligibles from this season, appearing on many lists of the best undrafted/re-entries this year:

http://thehockeywriters.com/2017-nhl-draft-overagers/

https://www.google.ca/amp/www.dobberprospects.com/prospects-ramblings-top-ten-overage-prospects-re-entering-the-2017-nhl-draft/amp/

So those are the two that come to mind for me. Anyone else have a player that went undrafted who they'd like to see get an invite from Vancouver?

And slightly off topic (again): who were the "shockers" who looked like sure things but ended up slipping through seven rounds and going undrafted this year?

EDIT: HFboards actually has a topic that asks many of the same questions I have in this post: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=2362457

So I'm gonna use their posters to "crowdsource" a list of undrafed players that Canucks fans would like to see invited to camp (I've added hyperlinks to their respective elite prospects in pages):

MacAuley Carson

Richard Hugg

Parker Kelly

Jordy Bellerive

Adam Thilander

Dylan Coghlin

Reid Gardener

Austen Keating

Pavel Shen

Artyom Minulin

Brady Lyle

Tommy Miller

Hugo Danielsson

Joel Teasdale

Samuel Bucek

Kaden Fulcher

Dereck Baribeau

And the above are merely the undrafted players that HFCanucks posters want invited.

The list of quality undrafted 2017 prospects continues. This thread offers a substantially longer list of potential invites:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=2362441

 And now that I look at this post, I realize it should have been a new thread. Unless nobody responds to this post, in which case I'll assume this stuff is only interesting to me.

That's a lot of work just to be buried in this thread bud. I'm sure it will pick up in a week or so.

I was personally looking at Thilander as a later selection for the Canucks. He was good at the u18s last year, and made the commitment to come to NA. I'm with most, scratching my head at the Gunnarsson pick.

Pavel Shen's numbers are insane for an 18 y/o (well 17 until august) in the MHL. The Russian factor though...

Excited for prospect camp, but I'm super pumped for young stars. This will be the first time (that I can remember) where we have a solid roster and it'll be fun to see how some of the new guys stand up against the other teams prospect pools.

Nice work Sid. Too bad you aren't working for the Canucks.

They just confirmed it on 1040

Thanks. The people I'd heard it from are usually solid sources but I couldn't find anything in the media.

Nice to have that confirmed.

Now we just need a press release with all the details. I think I'll probably go this year since UBC is so close by (for me anyway).

Well they can always PM me here if they need help.

But I think they've probably got a good list already. The team has done pretty well with invites. I mean, outside of the scrubs that come just to provide warm bodies or guys who get a call because they're local and are around and available during the summer (not that I have any issue with giving local guys a chance). But they've really done a pretty good job in recent years targeting higher upside guys (like Carcone and D'Aoust) and have done contracts where appropriate.

Hopefully a few of the names I've posted here will end up on this year's camp invites list.

That's how I roll. ;)

Don't know why but I rarely ever make threads anymore. And I drop a lot of "blog entry" type of posts in random threads (many of which are probably better suited for OPs in new threads).

Anyway, that's just me. I'm sure people are used to it (or sick of it) by now.
