Recommended Posts

I figured this worth a thread, though we're a month away still. I stumbled across a few Canucks invitees, these would be in addition to our prospects and pending draft choices.

Canucks invite Ratelle:

I'll update when we know more.

Brubacher seems like an interesting player... but it sounds like he's heading back to RIT for sure so we can't secure him under contract, but at least he's getting a look and might like what he see's here.

I know we won't get an AHL team in Abbotsford soon, but seriously wish the development camp occured in Abbotsford.

I'm hoping that they move the Comets to the Pacific Coliseum.

I watched Brubacher in PG quite a few times at the old Coliseum/Rolling Mix Arena - he was a solid player for the Spruce Kings but I never thought he'd be anywhere near getting a development camp invite from anyone let alone the Canucks - goes to show you that players develop at different times in their careers though.  Unsigned/undrafted players often go to multiple development camps from different teams throughout the off-season don't they?

At this pace of construction at the Aud, it's looking like a possibility:

it makes sense for us to have an ECHL team in Utica and the Comets on Renfrew and Hastings.

Brubacher is definitely intriguing, 6'4" D-man who put up a decent amount of points in the NCAA. And Ratelle seems to have put up good offensive numbers (pretty much point per game pace) in the Q the past three years.

Obviously you can't really put any expectations on undrafted invites but it's always fun when one of them impresses.

I like Ratelle, got to watch him a few times in the playoffs with Zhukenov in Chicoutimi. He's on the smaller side but came up clutch more than a few times for them and doesn't shy away from the physical play at all.

Also wouldn't mind inviting Olivier Galipeau again, who we invited last year. He was also on Chicoutimi this year and was a real standout for them in the playoff run, the kind of defenseman that does it all. We are a little crowded for middling defense prospects, but barely any invitees get contracts anyway so it wouldn't hurt to take another look.

I was hoping the Canucks would take Galipeau in the seventh round last couple of years.

WTF? Did they tear the whole thing down? How extensive is the upgrade?

Don't worry. The Aud will remain. :)

They're adding a pretty extensive complex around the old facilities though. Plans I've seen (attached below) show them adding two full rinks and a third playing surface that'll either be a soccer pitch or another rink (plus retail, offices, change rooms, services, etc):

They gutted the inside too though:

Seems really ambitious for ~4 months
