Dallas has 16.6 million in cap space and buying out Niemi would cost them next to nothing so I think they pass. Also not keen on taking Seabrook even with salary retained. One of CHI core players, three cup rings, a big two way defenseman that can do a bit of everything, including score timely goals, hit like a truck, for a fringe NHLer, and only because our team lacks depth on other teams and AHLer. #1. Beating the dead horse. Remember if this is what Dallas wants Trouba and Dumba are their likely targets. Better offensively, younger and more upside. I seriously doubt you can get a First Round pick for him straight up and if you are going to get at top 10 pick, no way it includes an actual asset that can play and has a good contract. At best, Dallas would likely want Tanev and a pick in first two rounds for number 3 AND would still want Vancouver to take a crap contract...likely one of their goalies. Every GM in the NHL is scared of trading a top pick (top 10 typically) for something that isn't sexy. Tanev is a lot of things but you cannot sell 2 goals and 10 points as sexy. It is somewhat easier to trade for a known commodity (e.g. the Edmonton deal) but even then, fanbase was very critical of that as was most the hockey world which makes other GMs notice. Put it another way, would you trade Canucks fifth overall pick to Dallas for a 10 point Dman if Dallas were to take Dorsett of your hands? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
