diesel_3
Tim Hague, Who was known for his stint in the UFC, fought heavyweight Adam Braidwood in an 8 round boxing match where he suffered a devastating knockout to the hands of Braidwood. Hague was reported to have seizures in the dressing room where he was rushed to the hospital. Not long after that, He slipped in to a coma and from there was pronounced brain Dead. He was 34 years old. When I was playing football in Alberta, a few guys I played with from the Wetaskiwin/Camrose area were buddies with Tim Hague and I had the pleasure of meeting him just after his stint with the UFC, just a mountain of a man but very kind and humble. The reality of how dangerous combat sports can be, RIP Tim.
RRypien37
It was a matter of time something like this would happen on the main stage to a well known guy where it would make news/receive attention. RIP to him and condolences to his family.
HI5
That's rough, at such a young age. Danger of combat sports and in this case boxing. Hopefully August 26th McGregors corner man throws in the towel before his fighter receives any permanent damage.

Although its always an ever present danger, keep in mind this specific fight was at heavy weight (265 pounds). May vs Mac will be at 154 pounds and Floyd hasn't knocked anyone out it in years. May will obviously dismantle him but it won't be a slug fest.

SabreFan1
Was he boxing or doing MMA in a ring rather than an octagon? If he was doing MMA, this would be the first ever MMA death. *edit* just watched the fight. He was boxing. Boxing is no joke.....

riffraff
After watching the footage. lowering your body and leading with your head is not defence. is there no three knock down rule? the ref could have arguably stopped this sooner. Tim was never in this fight, was knocked down several times and take numerous clean unanswered shots to the head....
CBH1926
Getting hit in the head is never good, especially when it goes on for years. Boxing, MMA, football etc. all have tendency to shorten life. RIP

Their boxing refs must be as lousy as New York's MMA refs.

Especially with heavyweights. Giant men taking repeated blows in the head from other giant men. That causes damage.

HI5
Just watched some of that video and imo this fight should have been stopped at about the 3min 8sec mark. Ref and the guys trainer really dropped the ball there. 32 minutes ago, RRypien37 said: Although its always an ever present danger, keep in mind this specific fight was at heavy weight (265 pounds). Won't be a slug fest but Mayweather is going to land potshots at will. Head or body..I think McGregor goes down from bodyshots. Those consistent shots will add up in a 12 round fight. Salmonberries
Update on Matt Hughes: Matt Hughes is “awake and responsive” one day after being seriously injured in a truck-train crash Friday morning, his longtime manager Monte Cox told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Saturday. Cox, who is speaking directly with Hughes’ brother Mark, said family and doctors are “optimistic and hopeful” about Hughes’ condition. “He is awake, but eyes closed,” Cox said. “Can squeeze hands.” Hughes, 43, was driving a pickup truck Friday morning in Raymond, Ill. Per the Illinois State Police, the legendary UFC fighter approached a “railroad grade crossing marked with crossbucks” in the truck. The truck crossed the tracks “directly in front of a train and the train struck the passenger side of the truck,” according to the police release. Hughes was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill. The hospital wrote in a statement Friday night that its trauma team had stabilized Hughes and “continues to help him in his recovery.” The Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the cause of the crash and there are no updates as of Saturday afternoon, per a spokesperson. Hughes is one of the greatest champions in UFC history, holding the welterweight title multiples times between 2001 and 2006. He owns victories over the likes of BJ Penn and Georges St-Pierre. Hughes retired from competition in 2011, but recently discussed a comeback. https://www.mmafighting.com/2017/6/17/15824460/longtime-manager-gives-update-on-condition-of-matt-hughes-after-crash
