Flint Airport: Michigan officer stabbed at airport in attack eyed as terrorism

The stabbing of a police officer at a Michigan airport on Wednesday is being investigated by the FBI as a possible terror attack, officials said.

Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, was evacuated after Officer Jeff Neville was stabbed in the neck. He's currently listed as being in stable condition, according to Michigan State Police.

The FBI says the suspect is in custody and is being questioned. They are working to determine a possible motive for the attack.

"We are aware of reports that the attacker made statements immediately prior to or while attacking the officer, but it is too early to determine the nature of these alleged statements or whether or not this was an act of terrorism," the FBI said in a statement.

Pretty funny how it's labeled terrorism right away when this goes does it, but when it's the white guy shooting up that ball game it's not. Weird huh.

Michigan police officer 'stable' after stabbing at airport

A police officer has been stabbed in the back and neck at an airport in Michigan, police say.

The officer is in hospital recovering. "Please keep the officer in your prayers," said Michigan State Police on Twitter.

The Bishop International Airport in Flint has been evacuated and additional officers have been stationed at city hall, officials say.

The officer appears to have been targeted, police tell local media.

One suspect is in custody.

Local media report that the officer is Lieutenant Jeff Neville, who is now in a stable condition.

Sources tell ABC 12 in Flint that Mr Neville was standing at his post at the top of the escalators when he was approached from behind and attacked with a large knife.

The attacker allegedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest"), witnesses and sources at the airport were quoted as saying by NBC News.

The incident took place shortly after 09:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on Wednesday.

The FBI are leading the investigation, in partnership with airport and local law enforcement agencies.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said in a statement: "My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day.

"I want the public to know that several agencies are involved and working to ensure the situation is under control."

They are taking extra precautions just to be safe, she added.

Officials say the airport will remain closed until further notice.

About 800,000 passengers used the airport last year.
