[Report] Coyotes and Dave Tippett mutually agree to part ways

Recommended Posts

So the Coyotes have let Doan go, traded Smith and now released Tippett. Looks like they are trimming a lot of payroll and are just going to let their youth play with minimal mentoring available from veteran players. I suspect that may be where the "philosophical differences" came into play.

They will now be in a position to take on more bad contracts for players that will never play again (maybe Hossa) so they can artificially get to the Cap floor. This franchise has been a disaster waiting to happen since day one......sooner they go to Seattle or Quebec City the better.

most underrated coach atm imo. if he gets onto a decent team thats up and coming. watch out

He is very much that,

good for him to move on and get a fresh start elsewhere, his talent as a coach was wasted in Arizona. If he doesn't get a job this summer he will be the first coach hired when the first coach gets fired when the season starts.

Too bad Canucks hired a coach already. Tippett is a great coach. He's done some decent things with a lot of mediocre teams at best in ARZ. If he's looking to get into more of a management role, maybe Canucks should give him a call. Bring him on as an assistant GM. Wouldn't hurt. Either way He won't be on the market long.

Mutually? So, John wants to build a team a certain way, Dave doesn't like what he's doing and has a difference of opinion on how it should be built. Solution - Dave is out of a job.

Chakya probably wants the team to tank, and Tippett probably doesn't want that on his resume.

Can we get another draft pick if they hire Willie?

Feels like it's more the owner than Chayka.   Tippett was ranked above Chayka - he was VP of hockey operations in addition to being the head coach.

In his statement Tippett says "After some thoughtful discussions with Andy, we both agreed that it was best for me to move on" - that's in reference to owner Andrew Barroway.
