I'll keep my expectations sky high thanks. I bet my expectations for Elias will rival even his expectations for himself. If you think that you have higher hopes than he does for himself you're kidding yourself.

its important to separate hopes from expectations.

I SEe what youre trying to say but you cant make that assumption because NOBODY EVER has had a season like EP in the sHL. Thats pretty much why theres so much hype around him right now.

I'm all for the hype, on the hype train, I'm pumped for him to come to the NHL, but let's not kid ourselves, though it is a very good league, the SHL is a long way from the NHL.

For some reason, the “see you at development camp” part makes me laugh.

I mean, I know he’ll be there and it’ll be a good experience, but he just seems so far beyond development camps already.

Feels like the coaches will have Elias demonstrate something and then just stop the camp and tell all the other players: “if you guys are lucky, there will be a night when the planets align, and one time in your career, you will get to do what  Elias just did.”

Then, all the coaches will just pack up and go for beers and tell the players to all spend the next two hours watching Pettersson put on a skills clinic.

End of camp, they’ll ask what Elias learned, and the coaches will say they’re not sure what Pettersson learned, but he sure taught everyone else, players and coaches alike, a tonne about hockey.

I dunno, just feels like that’s how it’ll go.

I believe Brock went to the Development camp last year, but didn't see a lot of action.  My guess is Pettersson will get similar treatment.

In sweden we paint our heroes in gold, Pettersson is now the youngest ever to get "golded".. -This is done in landhockey, hockey, and in soccer

you Swedes are nutty :P

many of the draft predictions had Elias at 9 or 10, I feel very lucky we got him at 5!

the least respected scouting team in the NHL.  Look at their draft record, I won't even take them seriously.

respects to them though, Kole Lind is going to prove them wrong, Shinkaruk and Lind are 2 different players.

LOL.   He doesn't just do that.   He is "associated" in that he lives in Europe and keeps them updated on decisions they make.   I don't think he has had much role in their picks but, to be honest, I don't know.   We just share beers and chat every once in a while.   He is a former player so, like a lot of former players, looks for different things here and there based upon his own background and experiences and he was a Dman too which, again, can bias assessments.

And there is no "them", it is one guy.   He wasn't comparing Lind and Shinkaruk as players but as career trajectories.   I also disagreed with him as I think Lind has more drive and less expectation.

Ya, this is up there with other European countries and "nuttiness" but one thing to notice.   While this kid is not yet "filled in", that is not a weak looking guy in that photo.   Compare him to that hilarious picture of Middelstat or even Kane years back from your own city's limo/escort services and he is a lot more solid than either of these guys who clearly didn't spend "a couple of seasons in the AHL" and didn't break in their first NHL contact.
