Matt Brassard | D

Hopefully this is a good sign. Brassard was at the rink yesterday and hanging out with the kids from the Junior Gens.

Not wearing a sling at least. And doesn't seem to have a cast or anything on that left arm, but it's hard to tell.

Not gonna speculate about him letting his left arm hang while he bends his right, as that would definitely be over-analyzing the photo (I think he's just playfully resting his one arm on that blond kid's head anyway).

Highlights from last night:

Brassard doesn’t look great on the first play (where he picks up his minus) but that one is mostly on the teammate who made a bad back pass. You do get a sense later of Brassard’s poise and vision on the power play from Oshawa’s 3rd and 5th goals.

Brassard and the Gens go again tonight against Kitchener and then play tomorrow against Kingston.

Busy weekend with three games in three nights, but hopefully a chance to pick up some points, both in the standings and to pad Matt's stats sheet.

Tonight's game starts 7:05 Eastern (4:05 Vancouver).

Tomorrow is 6:05 Eastern (3:05 Vancouver).

Gens have lost their last couple games (once in regulation and once in OT), and Brassard has gone pointless. He's still at 10 points (3G 7A), now after 12 games played this season.

Oshawa played some of their worst hockey in the loss to the Petes on Thursday, getting outshot 51-21, and only really staying in that game due to the heroics of goalie Kyle Keyser. Keyser almost singlehandedly dragged his team to OT, only to lose the game on the first shift of the extra frame (Brassard on ice for the goal against, as he nearly always starts on the top OT three man unit). Last game, Gens had a 4-3 lead in the middle of the 3rd, and gave up 3 goals in a row to fall 6-4 to Owen Sound. Much more respectable performance, but still a disappointing finish. Hopefully Oshawa can get back on track tomorrow night, as they face Barrie (3:05pm start Vancouver time).

Have to wonder if Brassard is 100% right now. He came back really quick from what looked like an arm/elbow injury (can't remember if he even missed a game), but he hasn't quite been as dominant. His shots totals are down the past few games and he hasn't figured in the scoring. Looked a little slow and tentative in the game action I've seen recently. So maybe he's a bit banged up. Oshawa has also been missing some key players, with McShane injured and Tullio and Robinson off to the U17s. Hopefully Brassard and the Gens get back on track for next game and we see a win and some points for Matt.

Another quieter game for Brassard, who hasn't quite been up to his usual tricks since that game he looked to have hurt his arm/elbow. No points, even, and just a single shot on goal.

He stays at 11 points through his 14 games played this season.

Oshawa won 4-3 in OT.

As an aside, Marco Rossi (2020 eligible) continues to impress for losing side Ottawa. 2 more goals tonight in the OT loss. The rookie import has 13G 13A 26 points +21 in 21 games, averaging around 4 SOG/GP and 56% on faceoffs (and he's top-20 in the OHL in faceoff wins and attempts).

Here’s the goal:

Brassard sniping one from the Boeser spot! Looks like we may have another RH shooting option down low. ;)

The way he’s celebrating, you’d almost think it’s a road game. Matty loves to rub it in, especially if he can get the opposing bench and the road fans angry. He has some agitator/pest to his game. But it’s at home. Probably just psyched he scored.

Nice celly either way.
