Junkyard Dog
They have a surplus of D. Teams recognize that. They won't get fair value for most of their players they're looking to get rid of.
EternalCanuckFan
Hard to know if this is indicative of what Tanev is worth on the market. Vegas was extremely hamstrung by Methot's reluctant to waive his NTC for Canadian teams (except Ottawa). Curious if the Stars will flip Methot back to the Sen's now though they obviously have a need for D as well and he might pair well with Klingberg. amplified0ne
Why wouldnt they just keep Methot at least until the Trade Deadline. Probably would have gotten better than a 2nd round pick in 2020! and a throw in 7th round goalie. The whole expansion draft reeks of meddling or McPhee is just an idiot. canuktravella
i think thats why benning held on to him his values way more huge at deadline especially with possible injuries every yr some top team might be down 2 top 6 dman and decide to overpay to go on cup run. Only way i move tanev is a first rounder a good d prospect and a third otherwise the teams at deadline can beat it

Scottish⑦Canuck
You're forgetting that Methot is 32 and Tanev only 27. Tanev is significantly more valuable.
HerrDrFunk
I've never heard of a pick being traded three years in advance before.

DownUndaCanuck
Great deal for Dallas, they get what they want and hopefully can make a playoff push of sorts now. Method will really help stabilize that back end over there. Fergurson was a former 7th round pick so they really don't lose much. I'd say Tanev is probably worth a late 1st or high 2nd round pick + a B or C grade prospect. Methot just went for a 2nd rounder and E grade prospect. amplified0ne
Pretty telling, OTT could have re-acquired Methot, either McPhee was asking them for a kings ransom or OTT just wanted to be cut loose from the $$ owed to Methot so they can say to their fanbase he was lost to Expansion. No doubts they would have preferred to get out from the Phaneuf contract over the Methot one though.
KKnight
this trade is ridiculous. Mcphee is terrible at trades. Nothing less than a 1st should have been accepted.

Method can't really skate though. He's a big bodied guy, but not really very mobile or much of a puck mover.
