Edit**  Kidding of course, but this or should give a very good idea as to Tanevs value at this point in time

Well, it's a starting point. As much as teams always need D, they also know Vegas has too many so they aren't going to offer the moon. At best these are secondary tier D and we won't see much in the way of bidding wars to raise the value.

The Canucks don't have to trade Tanev, so as much as they will listen to offers, they can say no to the low bidders. It's just not going to turn into a massive return like some are expecting.

But back to Methot, a deal for him was expected in some of the pre-draft rumours.

Pretty telling, OTT could have re-acquired Methot, either McPhee was asking them for a kings ransom or OTT just wanted to be cut loose from the $$ owed to Methot so they can say to their fanbase he was lost to Expansion.  No doubts they would have preferred to get out from the Phaneuf contract over the Methot one though.

believe someone said the team who lost said player could not re-acquire said player until January.  so maybe there was no opportjnity.

Method can't really skate though.  He's a big bodied guy, but not really very mobile or much of a puck mover.

He's decent, he isnt worse than Edler and actually is in position more than not.  Like I said wonder what McPhee will get for Emelin.  Although maybe it was in his plan to have a Emelin-Sbisa pairing with one playing their off-side.

a 2nd + a b level prospect isn't bad for a 32 year old d man who is likely going to struggle without Karlsson's speed to bail him out.  karlsson may be an offensive dynamo but his d game wasnt half bad either.

what is methot without karlsson?

im guessing a 2nd pairing d man likely your #4 d man on a really good team. maybe ur #3 if he gets good chemistry.

That was put to bed by Lebrun via Daly.

Have confirmed this with Bill Daly just now: There is no blanket rule prohibiting a team from re-acquiring player lost in exp draft already

The Jan. 1 rule is for players traded to other teams before the expansion draft; they can't be re-acquired prior to Jan. 1

Let this be a wake up call to those who think we can get a haul for Tanev.

Why cause Vegas was willing to take nothing for a quality D-man? Methot is 5 years older than Tanev as well. McPhee's trades are hardly the bench mark we should be using for our assets. If people can't think Tanev is worth a Hall than you can't think he is worth a nobody goalie and a second rounder 3 years from now.

I guess when JB said last week that he hadn't gotten a lot of calls about Tanev must mean his value is through the roof..

McPhee pretty much f'd up the market for Tanev indirectly. As someone else stated best to wait till the trade deadline when a team is desperate to load up.

i would have thought Methot would fit in as a #2 or #4 d man, but would be interested who looks to be waiver fodder
