...or a colossal eff-up

They may regret this signing if JT hits the open market

As if the $ and term is not bad enough full NMC in ALL 3 years to boot. Terrible deal for the Leafs.

no kidding. I really respected what Shanny and Lou had accomplished over the last few seasons but this makes very little sense to me. Guess time will tell. Heres hoping he's a dud.

Moore and Marleau - and some are criticizing the Canucks for taking players who will all have their contracts done (if they play them out) before 30.   Well, if nothing else the Leaf's Father Son trip will have some of the Dads and some of the players being the same age.

TSN probably thinks this is excellent for the Leafs, cause hey there the leafs, everything they do is great.

TSnNjust ripped the Nucks for signing vets to shelter/play with the kids.  Leafs do it and it is genius because Lou understands the value of veteran signings.

TSN = Turds Sucking Nightly

Leafs are a joke. Sign a friggin 37 year old on the tail end of his career for a hefty AAV. Leafs be a Laff-ing stock...

Yes, the Leafs are a hated joke, who deserve to suffer loss after loss, and never win another Cup.  Marleau is a terrific player.

This is the truly shortsighted part if this signing.  The leafs aren't going to win the cup in the next three years.  With JT they could.  It would give them the best center combo in the league. Now they may win a series and then they will have three guys to pay 12 mil a year to.  Peaking early in TO.

We sign a 27 year old who just had a career year to a 3 year contract with no trade restrictions and with an annual cap hit of 3.15 mill per season, and we're "losers".

Leafs sign a 37 year old to a three year contract, probably with trade restrictions, with an annual cap hit of 6.25 per year, and this is a definite "win".

Makes sense to me.

Eventually all that dead cap they're holding will come off.  But, that D...

Not going anywhere until they get at least two more of NHL-calibre.

Exactly. Regardless of whether they can shed cap or not, it's cap space that certainly could have been used elsewhere to greater effect.
