Joe Casey at the Bat (a poem)

Recommended Posts

Hello. So, I live in a miserable city owned by the legend of a former Nazi sympathizer named Walt Disney. And I work as a copywriter, blogger (in whatever oversaturated version that might exist today), co-run an online clothing shop, sing in a $&!#ty band that goes nowhere, and write bad poems.

I wrote this poem this week.

Joe Casey at the Bat

Three badly decomposed bodies discovered in a farmhouse
underneath the floorboards
the unforgettable reek, not twice could anyone sniff
but they kept coming back
that morbidly obese curiosity goes undenied

Acid attacks are catching on with teens all over London
those sad suckers just standing there
picking up dropped calls, the types unaware
faces lit up like a festival bombing some unexpected Paris night
abdominal pain from a parasite
you might want to get that looked at
before blood clots too deeply and skin purples
and missing limbs circle
I’ll be fine, you shrug it off

never say that you were not warned

Left your life for five weeks
to separate the strength you possess from the meek
upon an exploded view
donating your gently used business rags onto others
expanding the vocabulary of miserable effect
to find a place a second O could go in lose

Clickbait, it’s beauty in disarray
jailbait, pulling the weeds out of the bouquet
dumb fun for everyone, these weekend criminals
these weekend parents, the downward trend
apologies for the double send.

Well written poem, very interesting, and it makes the reader think afterwards, which in my opinion is the best part about poems. I also love how you have to understand and find the message throughout the lyrics/poem. Poetry is one of the main reasons I fell in love with rap.
