The Gamerecorder, the 74 Summit Series, and the Hockey Hall of Fame

This is about international hockey.

The 74 Summit Series featured the "Gamerecorder" which was the first statistics computer ever used in professional hockey, possibly even professional sports. It was only featured in the first 4 games of the series because the Russians would not allow it in the games in Russia. It was designed, built and operated by my oldest brother Brad, who was tragically killed in an accident about 6 months after the series ended. I am currently in contact with the Hockey Hall of Fame who is very interested in preserving the memory of this event, as they do have a 74 Summit Series Display, although they have not yet decided if they will feature anything in the display, they will make that decision down the road. This was the very beginning of "real time stats" in professional sports.

Here is the 74 Summit Series page on Wiki where there is now a reference to the computer in the last line of the "Broadcasting" section.

We have now been able to create a high quality digital image, and have received permission from Metroland Media who owns the copyright, to proceed with a donation to the Hockey Hall of Fame, who have already stated they will be very happy to receive the donation.
