Really do hate the Flames, but Calgary supports their team, and in no way deserves to be threatened like this. Maybe all us Canadian team fans should (somehow) come together and tell the NHL that we are a united group who will stand up against threats made against any .Canadian franchise? I bet if millions of Canadians came together in one loud voice Betman would tuck tail. I heard Bo today talking about how it's his responsibility to grow the game, while he's in the league. And then to hear Betman say the asinine things he says about Calgary. Pisses me off!

My familiarity with Calgary tells me that sort of game will be responded to with a loud *$&! you Gary. If this were Vancouver I'd be incensed. I suppose we're what, 10 years from this sort of discussion here? As funny as a flooded saddle is, I don't like the threat either. The owners want a massive complex that has no hope of ever being paid off except by higher taxes... yah, thats sounds like Calgarians

Ya, that makes sense. Calgarians should tell the NHL to stuff it. The league can't survive without the .Canadian teams' revenue. BINGO! Flames aren't going anywhere - solid hockey market and the only show in town. Owner wants public money to build his business
combover
Empty threat. Every owner tries the same thing to get the city foot the bill. so ownership is ready to move a well supported good hockey market to an unknown.....lol right. That Sounds like a smart business move that couldn't possibly end up a money loser. Theres a lot of NHL markets that would love to have e revenue and fan support the flames have especially now that there on the up swing. Funny the owners didn't threaten to move thier turkey of a team 5 years ago.
HerrDrFunk
I'm torn. On the one hand, F the Flames management group for doing this to a Canadian franchise and a loyal fanbase. On the other hand, the Flames jersey bonfires will be amazing if they move.
Nuxfanabroad
Sh*t.. a slight Irma-twist away from Cuba & Bettman(incorrigible cur) would've been possibly bailing out 3 sunbelt arenas with a freeken bucket. Ruined the great Cdn pastime.

City suggest Victoria Park, Flames say no. all this while the team wants to pay a small portion of the tab. why is this on the city to find a location for the Flames. This is typical posturing right before a mayoral election. You can expect Burke to shoot his mouth off as well soon saying the team could leave. its all bull$&!# posturing. Flames aren't going anywhere. Flames are as solid in Calgary as the Grizzlies are in Vancouver.
Warhippy
The ultimate irony? Albertans/Calgarians crying about the NDP wasting money and socialism and over spending. Yet taking to numerous threads on news and sports channels claiming hw Nenshi is an idiot and should pony up the cahs to pay for this. Simply put. Billionaire doesn't get his way and can't use tax dollars to pay for shiny new $400 million arena. Threatens to take ball and go home. While Albertans who hate NDP spending cry that the mayor of Calgary and the NDP aren't coughing up cash to build a new arena...

What goes good with boxers (or are you a briefs guy) - Merlot? I don't think this is out of range of possibility at all. Owners are strange animals and ego plays a large part. If the Seattle move (pick a city) made ownership more money, revenue in US dollars and gave them a way to give a big middle finger to some local politicians I wouldn't put it past them. A number of franchises in pro sports have moved for lesser reasons.

Brad Marchand
Daryl Katz did the same thing to the city of Edmonton while pushing for a new arena for the Oilers. It's also no coincidence that King came out and said this a month before Calgary's civic election. Trying to pressure Nenshi into supporting the project.
