Although I must say even top stars like mentioned don't garner the attention they should here, I don't know how many talks I have had or heard of where teams simply want picks, first year pros, guys on their ELCs and prospects and scoff at the idea of adding a top player at their position who is 25 ? 28 ? even 30 ?

Probably has more to do with the assets required to obtain said star. An early-mid rebuilding team isn't likely to spend them and contenders often don't have them. It's a limited market.

On another topic, COL prospect J. Dahlen had a great AHL debut this weekend with a goal and an assist off some hard work and going to the tough areas that we're happy to see :towel:

The assist might be the more impressive play! Loving that strength on his skates!

It’s true I did not contact the Devils, or any of the top 6 teams in the league.  They didn’t have or would want to give up the pieces needed for return so I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time with a negotiation that wouldn’t have gone anywhere.

Agreed 100%

Shopped the best player on the planet. Was offered scraps and 3rd rounders because "he's a pending UFA".   :picard:

Not anymore he's not.

Sometimes they do?  Timing is everything.

As are the realities of fantasy hockey with a playoff component.  A strong veteran player, contracted for several years, on a team with poor play off prospects is virtually useless to a rebuilding club.  Even teams on the bubble are reluctant & wont (have not, I have tried) offer much value for that player has been my experience. To have a better chance at getting to the show. As a buyer, why in a hypothetical situation trade for a 29 year old veteran on Arizona right now? Paying a good asset is counterproductive on the hope he might be shipped to a contender as his contract expires sometime in the future. To recover value spent???

But Hall, you would think, had some pretty good value?  Less at the beginning of the season when projections were poor. Much more as they crept towards the playoff's.

I do have one or two idea's to make the ''middle market'' more fluid. The single best way is to keep teams accountable to the CBA.  Happy to send you a PM to qualify ideas. If interested let me know?

There are sharks out there when they smell blood. Should have been a market for said player...

I have some other observations, having been in a position like yourself.  But I'll keep those to myself.

I can't speak for everyone but for me, when I know a player of a certain calibre is on the market I get a little gunshy. Can't pull the trigger....Firstly a top end fantasy player on the market is rare enough, but usually its due to age/expense and being on an NHL  team that won't do much for the next 3 years, or that is the popular belief system in fantasy hockey. Secondly as a struggling team I really can not trade 3 playoff bound guys and a pick for a stud that costs a mint per year in cap hit. I don't have the lineup spares to move obviously, and its a lot of eggs in one basket if i do make that change to quality rather than quantity...when you have a guy you paid a ton of other guys to get and he is hurt for half a year you are so much less likely to do that similar deal again. right? haha....and lastly, a stud on a crappy team is not worth his asking price to a team that is in contention...if he isn't gonna play in the second season, and I know I will make the second season, that is definately a down step to take in acquiring him...so it is a rare pwny that is a stud on a playoff team who is affordable in cap hit and doesn't cost the farm to bring in via the deadline......very rare. Almost legendary, so i don't see why the long face, horse.

:P had to work in my favorite simple joke

asked it of a real horse once with my window rolled down and my wife said i was "lame"...same day an hour and 4o minutes later I was at the red light district of Victoria and same window down..stopped at a literal red light when i had to say..."why the long face, Whooores?"

"your not funny, your an asshole"

yup, but i am a funny asshole.

Hey all,

Thanks to @Mike Vanderhoek For the offer to join GML. I am very appreciative of the opportunity and hope to not disappoint. I like what I see from the Islanders. Seems like a team with up and coming youth. @theminister has left me lots to work with and I hope to continue on the youth trend. Though I haven't fully decided what my plan of action is just yet, I hope to have that info released soon.

Again many thanks and look forward to working with those I know from other leagues.. And those who I have yet to meet.

Feel free to drop a line, let me know if anyone is of interest. Message box is always open!

Good luck, man! Take care of my baby. She turns 9 next year.

Yup, I think I left you with a lot of kenetic potential. You got kids all over the line-up, a couple-three young walk-ons next camp, some good drated potential, minors depth at every position, and an excess of picks including two lottery 1sts.

It was a 10th overall team. It missed the playoffs, but only by a margin. The East is the Beast.

Have fun! :gocan:

I gotta say, every time I hear about Hart trophy talk for Taylor Hall it makes me laugh when I think about only three teams showing interest when I shopped him to the league. We had our reasons for moving him and I’d do it again. Happy it worked out very well for Arby!

We're pretty thrilled to have Hall in Montreal, but this move was made well prior to the deadline when the Devils were very much a bubble-team. I sent James Neal and Brett Connolly, who were both easily playoff-bound, and a conditional 1st, so I certainly think that the playoff-bound nature of it palyed a big factor. And I imagine he'll cost a boatload after next season when he's a UFA, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
