TimberWolf
I remember when his stock was much higher. Don;t mind taking on this kind of project when the cost isn't high (it wasn't)Â Â Don't say this often, but nice trade Benning. This is how you take risks (not trading high picks and good prospects to get them)
oldnews
I like Pedan but realistically - he was behind Edler, MDZ, Hutton, and Wiercioch - with Juolevi also on the way.... Â On the other hand, despite Stecher and Biega, the right side has room to improve - and Pouliot's skillset is arguably a better fit for our group than Biega - who I love, but.... Â Biega is very likely to clear waivers. Â Pouliot on the other hand is a great risk to take - and without Letang/Schultz in front of him, he really could get a fresh start. Â Â Edit note:Â as D-Mo pointed out - Pouliot's a lefty - so kindly disregard those erroneous depth charts....he's moving into Weir's spot. Warhippy
Beauty  Baertschi and him are familiar and played under free.  Lost in all this is Anton Cederholm who while paired with Pouliot was one of the best 1-2 in the entire CHL  I'm really interested to see how this pans out over time and fully expect to see that 4th recouped at or before the trade deadline

If he can put it together, we could have a pretty decent piece. Even so at this point what is Pouloit's ceiling? My guess is at best he's the 6th or 7th defenseman.

JamesB
12 minutes ago, Lancaster said: The former #8 OA pick from 2012, before Jacob Trouba. Not physically imposing, but not tiny either.  Has put up points in junior and in the AHL. Hasn't quite successful transitioned into a regular NHL player yet.  I guess the Pens wanted something rather than losing him on waivers. Good call. I was going to make the same points. Great in Junior, high draft pick, good in the AHL, but disappointing at the NHL level so far. Pittsburgh did not want to put him on waivers and likely lose him for nothing (as presumably the Canucks or someone else would have claimed him). By getting Pedan the Pens are getting a guy who has already cleared waivers. Presumably the deal was on hold until Pedan cleared.  So Pitt gets a good AHL D who can be called up in the season when needed and a lottery ticket (4th round pick).  The Canucks get a guy who was not good enough to play in Pittsburgh but who will be on the Canuck 23 man roster.  Rumour is that Wiercioch will be sent down, but obviously it could be Biega. The Canucks apparently see him as an upgrade on both those guys (and on Pedan of course).  I liked Pedan -- toughness, speed, good shot. But obviously the Canucks were not sold on him. Pouliot is a gamble that could have a high payoff although the more likely outcome is that he gets passed on the Canuck depth chart within a year or so by someone like Holm, Chatfield or Juolevi.  Bottom Line; I don't mind this trade. The Canucks got the better player because they have more roster space and were willing to give up a (low) draft pick. Personally, I would prefer not to give up any more draft picks but I admit that 4th round picks rarely yield NHL players (about 10% of the time).
