there was an interesting article yesterday on the veteran log-jam in Utica now: https://canucksarmy.com/2017/10/04/the-comets-are-loaded-and-its-going-to-cause-some-problems/

"This is a major problem. What this means is that only five of Patrick Wiercioch, Anton Rodin, Darren Archibald, Michael Chaput, Jayson Megna, Carter Bancks, Wacey Hamilton, and Jaime Sifers will be able to play on any given night. And only four of them will be able to play if you want to also play both Reid Boucher and Philip Holm."

Has to be some trades coming...

Loan out Megna.

Loaning him and Hamilton solves some of the problem certainly.

That is nothing but the usual, boyscout drama.

Last year Utica had a 'major problem' when the Canucks were hammered with injuries and poached half their roster.

That list is a bunch of AHL veterans - Bancks, Hamilton, Sifers - are AHL contracts - that will never play for the Canucks.

Megna, Chaput etc - do not need development - it does not matter to this team whether they are Comets or loan outs - if/when you recall them, they are the same player regardless.

Rodin is the one player there that you want to control his recovery, minutes etc - and that is a simple matter and a no-brainer - you keep Rodin active in Utica.

Much ado about nothing.  These are peripheral and virtual non-issues that are easy to sort out.

Move Sifers - a 34 yr old AHL journeyman.  Loan Megna.  Whatever - it really doesn't matter much.

true dat. I just hope it doesn't get in the way of Holm and Rodin's progression, which it likely won't. I'm sure Cull has his marching orders.

Green played his vets a lot but it was to push the young guys to dislodge them.  Virtanen eventually did.  Green wants players to understand that they have to battle for their spot each and every game.  It's not that dry.  He had Cassels in the lineup when he hadn't earned a spot but he had to play games to get into game shape with all his injuries.

The idea is still that if a player can't crack an AHL lineup with AHLers he likely won't be able to crack a NHL lineup with NHLers.  Megna and Chaput, as productive AHLers, are also there to push guys to beat them out.   Green wants to elevate the standards and not make it easier.  If Rodin is really that good he'll earn a spot over them.

Big problem -- Canucks hit with injuries and have no depth.

Big problem -- Canuck have too much depth.

Par for the media course, whether CanucksArmy, Gallagher, or Pratt.

Fire Benning and Linden! They have no plan!...Sometimes it really is hard to digest our media. Bunch of drama queens trying to sell their negative spin all in the hopes of getting better ratings while disregarding the true facts.

Could loan Philip Holm to the Växjö HC where he played last year.  That gets rid of one of the vet from Utica.  He could even get paired with Juolevi!

Holm is not a vet of 320 pro games.

According to this article, in this particular scenario ECHL games don't count as professional games played. Does anybody know why? It's a professional league, no?

It's in their CBA.  Guessing they want leagues of at least equivalent value.

The AHL limits proven pros/vets because it's a developmental league.  A player coming from a less competitive league like the ECHL still needs development time.
