This League Makes Me Sick

The way I see it, it should be a 32 team league. 16 make the playoffs, and 16 dont.

Saskatchewan and Quebec can add a team in the future in Canada. Toronto shouldnt get a second team as the leafs are their history and they belong to be the GTA's team.

Houston, Seattle, and Kansas are my 3 teams in the USA to get a team.

Calgary stays where it is, there is lots of history there and the battle of alberta.

Phoenix, Carolina, and Florida are the teams to be relocated to better areas.

24~28 teams max. Less games..perhaps about 70~75.

Separate it North & South. Have about 10 teams in Canada(perhaps add 2 or 3 US n regional teams like Minny, Buff whatever?)

Cdn teams must have(min?) 12 Cdn skaters.

US teams must have the same number of US skaters.

Finals would be North versus South.

Work on a Euro league, with same rules/rink dimensions. Some day they might enter(perhaps top2 teams) to fight for Stanley.

Should have been started about 20~30 yrs back!

In Florida a price of a single ticket in the upper bowl for the Nov.18 2017 match up against the LA Kings is a WHOPPING $23.00!

When I watch highlights from there the lower bowl has a large percentage of empty red seats, the upper bowl I simply call the Red Sea for obvious reasons. The NHL salary cap is 75 million dollars, Florida's cap hit is some $68 million and change.

The Panther's average attendance for this current year  ( ranking 29'th ) is 12,430 which doesn't match the optics from telecasts! Stadium revenues are not available but ya needn't be an economist to figure out at 29'th in the standings - ya gotta be hurting some?

Bettman loves success stories like Florida but will not tolerate a Canadian market that doesn't meet his demands, of course there is an agenda that serves the interests of a former senior vice president and general counsel to the National Basketball Association - it's profits for American investors with spin offs into American communities.

Bettman continues to learn about the game and its history only to shape it to their liking for the future.

sidenote: To better understand how Bettman/cronies & lackeys roll, recommend Orwell's "Animal Farm"

"All pigs created equal, but some..."..eh, Bettman?

Ya can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!

Though I am flexible with Kansas being in Portland,Ore, Milwaukee or Salt Lake City...

Headlines on Sportsnet where Bettman's insinuating no arena deals in Ottawa/Cal could be troublesome, with more US markets trying to weasel in. Won't even read it,(know what it'll imply) cos' the complicit media-wh*res also make me wanna' spew. They write what the league tells them, or they lose sources.

Won't bother listing all the US teams with endless empty seats. The cameras try HARD to stay on the ice sheets down there. Cdn rev has kept this f***in' joke afloat for decades. Yet not ONE Cdn town could celebrate a Cup for a quarter C?!

This deck is SO rigged. The Yanks have stolen the Cup, & our proud tradition. I'm disappointed to not hear more Cdn fans calling this whole system into question.

& hey league..open your f***ing books. Just how much for overpriced tix, are Cdns paying for your twisted sunbelt welfare-sham ?!

Will say again..Hate what's become of this league, almost as much as I love the game of ice hockey. Twits like Bettman/BOG-insiders have gambled for most Cdn fans the latter will obfuscate the former - I hope it blows up in their face, in the end.

Rather see a new pro league in Canada, although I realize that'll never happen.

You are overreacting.  Calgary is a profitable hockey market.    Leaving the market cause the gov't doesn't want to pay tax dollars would be a big black eye for the NHL - they the NHL don't want to go there.     I love hockey but absolutely agree with the gov't standing up to the flames on this.  Tax money needs to be used in the best interests  of a community.    The research on lack of benefits to building an arena are clear - adds nothing.  If money grew on trees yeah lets do it.

The flames are valued at 435 million that is because they are in calgary.    These teams below are valued because of where they are.    Calgary is a good market for the NHL anyway you want to look at it.

  1. Carolina Hurricanes: $225 million
  2. Arizona Coyotes: $220 million
  3. Florida Panthers: $186 million

i said it in a different trend. I do not care that the Saddledome is 1000 years old still sells out every night compared to Arizona Carolina and Florida. THe amount of fans that attend home games for the flames beat those three teams combined for 10 years in attence

I could see Houston getting an expansion team if they make a push for it.  They will likely have the most money to pay the fee, have an NHL arena ready to go, and are the 4th largest US city.  They check off a lot of the boxes that the team is looking to fill.  At some point, I think it is inevitable that Florida, Carolina, and Phoenix move.  Seattle, Quebec, and KC are likely landing spots.

With corruption in some of the biggest soccer leagues in Europe, to cheating by judges in the Olympics, and referees in the NBA (questionably) involved in controlling outcomes, why should the NHL be any different?

Couldn't agree more. Not to mention my usual issue.... the corrupt and shady behind the scenes lottery selection process.  This is a bush league at best. Bettdouche is a gypsy.

This. If it was rigged Matthews would be on Arizona and McDavid on Buffalo.

Although I do honestly believe some NBA lotteries are rigged. 1985, 2008, 2012 come to mind.

Ahh, had to bump this, after seeing what's gone on in "Vegas"(lol)..nice expansion(sic) dues.

It's pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back, for me. Will prob keep distant tabs on this league, but doubt I'll contribute another dime to their casino coffers.

We Cdns have sold out, with our greatest cultural treasure.
