http://www.tsn.ca/radio/audio/benning-best-team-we-ve-had-in-four-years-pettersson-has-nhl-skill-1.924805

Summary:

- On Brock: knew he'd be a really good player but didn't think he'd be this good, this fast; is excited for him.

- On prospect wingers: we have a lot of scoring wingers, e.g. Dahlen & Lind, but we needed a skilled center at the draft.

- On Pettersson SEL MVP: is going to be an exciting player for fans to watch and is having a great season, will try to sign him at the end of the year. EP has the skill to step right in & play in the NHL but needs to continue to get stronger, would love to see him in a canucks jersey next year.

- On his GM contract talks: preliminary stages of conversations with Francesco Aquilini & confident it will get done- no timeline.

- On team: best team we've had in 4 years, they are doing the right thing for our fans- playing fast, fun hockey.

- On defensive injuries: Troy Stecher is cleared to play tonight, Chris Tanev is a game-time decision.

- On Gudbranson: he's day-to-day, will know in the next couple of days the extent of his injury.

- On Sedins future: nothing new; we sat down at end of last year & they want to go through this year, see where they end up. At the end of the year, we will sit back down with them again.

Great interview by JB, sounds like he is loving how the team is going and is very passionate about it. Got me excited for the future, Go Canucks Go!! :canucks:

edit: punctuation.

I love how Jim has turned this team around.  Sure, he's made some head scratching moves, but what GM hasn't?  It's easy to go back and pick apart his shortcomings with the advantage of hindsight, but we should also consider the good he's done for the team.  It's still going to be a least a year or two before we really start to see the fruits of his labour, when Elias and Olli make the team.  Brock Boesser is an absolute stud in the NHL right now.  That's all I'll say there, I don't want to jinx it.  Looking like the Sven Baertschi trade was a huge success.  Granlund for Shinkaruk seems to have worked in his favour too.

He's also done all this while still showing a tremendous amount of respect for the Sedins, letting them play out their contracts to the end, even if it is slowing down the rebuild a little bit (up for debate I suppose).  They've certainly earned it for all they've given the franchise over their careers.

Benning is doing a hell of a job,  he's really proving his doubters wrong.

If you look at our prospect pool the day he took over, and look at what we have now coming up,  it's absolutely incredible what he's done.  This is by far the strongest prospect pool this franchise has had in its entire 48 year history.

It's awesome that mid-late November and we are getting this sort of interview out of Benning.  Glad he acknowledged Brock's amazing start, it bodes well for us, first year players rarely have their best year for 2-10 years as an article about Boeser in NHL.com does a good job of explaining.  He leads the rookie scoring race now and is in the top thirty overall.  It's fun been pumped about watching games and enjoying the team play too. Best team in four years indeed.

Jeff Paterson.

Even when Jeff says something  positive, there is a undertone of negativity.

I dunno.  It's a tough one - with so much ignorance and lack of talent to choose from.

Who's the worst?

Botchford, Pratt, Paterson, Gallagher, Canucksmarmy....

Such a sports media wasteland, Vancouver has become.

In JP defense the whole organization has had this undertone of negativity for the past few years.  I don't mind JP, he asks the tougher questions nobody else asks.

Sbisa - whipping boy no longer / top pairing D in Vegas.  Not unlike Benning's own uptick - was always much better than advertised - so many failed troll jobs at their expense.

Sutter - clearly a foundational player in the eyes of anyone that understands the game.

Baertschi - appears to be worth a 2nd round pick.

Granlund - probably the best trade thread in recent history lol.

Pouliot - could be one of those moves that defines a GM.

Dorsett - anyone still whining about that 3rd round pick?

Nilsson, Del Zotto, Vanek, Gagner, Burmistrov , Wiercioch, Holm - looking like one of this team's best summer UFA efforts.

Prospect pool / youth - too many to name - perhaps as good, and deep, as this team has ever had.

Travis Green - succession plan in effect, right under most noses.

Transition.  Nice one, JB.  Making the most of every opportunity to improve the club.  Making moves also means losing some deals, but you don't score if you don't shoot.

Gudbranson - feel free to sign on Jan 1st.   JB - no need to wait until then....

All agreed. Would like to add his respect to Sedins.
