Erik Karlsson (discussion)

Recommended Posts

Signing him for 7+ years is a bad business move. The team that signs him will regret it after year 5 and it will just be a huge financial drain.

Can anyone imagine paying the Sedins 11m right now?

Some serious salary structuring would have to be done to make it worthwhile.

Reading stuff on could Karlsson be traded?

Man if they in a position where they move Karlsson, write the Sens franchise off...As a fan, how could you even rationalize this?

Especially after getting fleeced in both the Burrows and Duchene trade

So... Karlsson will be what, 29? When his contract expires? So you would pay 10+ million to a Dman over the age of 35?

Sure, he will be great for like maybe 5 years after his current contract. He is one of the top Dmen in the league and will he for a few more years.

Front loading still an option?

Thats a risky investment.

Karlsson will be still be good at 35 imo, he is one of the rare ones.  And yeh salary cap just been going up each season, and in 7 yrs will probably be a lot higher. 10 million right now is the 7-8 million that was the norm for top players.  And as a result 3-5 mill will be the norm form 3rd/4th liners.  Salaries just inflating.

Cheap owners won't pay Karlsson the money he wants anyway so he'll walk, they'd be smart to try and trade him. Could probably get a star center 1-for-1, or a big-time package. Top-line forward, 1st round pick, defensive prospect should do it.

Draisaitl + 1st for Karlsson?

OTT: Karlsson & JG Pageau(9.6 mill AAV)

EDM: Larsson

RNH

Poolparty

2018 1st

2019 3rd

(about 11.1 AAV)

If Edm wins it all, change 2019 pick to their 1st.

If I were Karlsson I’d be doing the same too. It has nothing to do with the money though, just looking at what a catastrophic mess Ottawa has become. It seems Dorion is making a run at Milbury’s title of dumbest GM.

Has any franchise squandered as much talent over the past two decades?..Unbelievable.

Bear in mind whoever is the GM of the Sens is limited to what they can do because of the owner.  Heck, even Milbury had to deal with Wang a fair bit.  Remember that owner's thought about using Sumo wrestlers as goalies!
