Did I say we are immune to stupidity and prejudice?  Even the finest grapes, if not properly cared for, will rot on the vine.  It takes effort to learn about others.  I think most Canadians make the effort.

When you exclude Americans from this statement: "It takes effort to learn about others.  I think most Canadians make the effort.", are you implying by non-inclusion that most Americans do not?  My experience is that many Canadians harbor deep prejudices that they don't like to own up to against Americans, and quite frankly, for the most part Americans complement us by regarding us with a benign neglect (if I may be permitted that non-sequitur to illustrate a deeper truth).  Which is to say, that most Americans regard as quite humble, nice and polite, because in their presence, many of us are so dishonest as to not show our true feelings, many of us are only willing to express our true feelings on the sly.  I generally like Americans because they usually tell you what they honestly think.  Unless, of course, they are progressives, in which case, like Canaadian progressives, they generally lie about everything, and are contemptuous of everyone they see as beneath them... which is pretty much everyone - which is why they want the government to run everyone else's lives - except that they want the government to give them everyone else's stuff.

I think even those who support this move would agree that they're largely in the minority. As it happens, the majority of former US envoys to Israel think it's a bad idea:

Quote

All but two of 11 former United States ambassadors to Israel contacted by The New York Times after President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital thought the plan was wrongheaded, dangerous or deeply flawed.

The 11 ex-envoys all closely followed Mr. Trump’s announcement on Wednesday, in which he also set in motion a plan to move the American Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. Even those who agreed that Mr. Trump was recognizing the reality on the ground disagreed with his approach — making a major diplomatic concession without any evident gain in return.

One of the exceptions was Ogden R. Reid, a former congressman who was the ambassador from 1959 to 1961, at the end of the Eisenhower administration. “I think it’s the right decision,” he said. “Not a lot more to say.”

The other exception was Edward S. Walker Jr., who was ambassador from 1997 to 1999, under President Bill Clinton. “I think it’s about time,” he said. “We’ve been remiss in not recognizing realities as they are. We all know Israel has a capital, it’s called Jerusalem, and over my 35 years of service in the Middle East no one ever questioned that.”

What about the departure from United States policy since 1948 — that the final status of Jerusalem is a matter for negotiation between the Israelis and Palestinians — and the condemnation from the international community?

“It’s really a question of what are the lines, the borders, to be drawn around the state of Israel and the ultimate state of Palestine,” Mr. Walker said. “Nothing in what the president has said precludes the negotiation of a settlement of this issue.”

That was not the prevailing view. More typical was the perspective of Daniel C. Kurtzer, who was the ambassador from 2001 to 2005, under President George W. Bush.

“There are many downsides, both diplomatically and in terms of the Middle East peace process, and no upside,” Mr. Kurtzer said. “We are isolated internationally once again — except for the Israeli government, which supports this — and we are taking ourselves out of the role the president says he wants to play as a peace broker.”

What of the argument that the peace process, with the goal of a two-state political solution, was dormant, and needed to be shaken up?

“The fact that the process is moribund calls for a much more dramatic role,” he said. “It doesn’t call for the U.S. to lean over and adopt the position of one party and offer nothing to the other party.”

For those who didn't bother reading, or aren't interested in doing the math, that's 82% opposed to the move by Trump and 18% in favor...

My guess is that if you polled internationally, 18% would be flattering to Trump's policy.

Maybe it's the US media promoting hate, that causes those around the world to think many Americans are ignorant, intolerant, and not accepting of others?

For a progressive society, that is supposed to be inclusive, the US does appear to harbor much hatred.

There could be something to that. Especially if you include social media. I can think of one twitter account that is turning stomachs around the world and damaging the once strong USA brand.

Fox is great at that..

Democrats are evil, liberalism is a disease (even though those inbred retards and the US in general has benefited greatly from liberalism, obviously), atheists are out to destroy your religion with their separation of church and state despite this concept being enshrined in the constitution..

It's sad that moving the US embassy from one city to another can cause such hatred between neighbors.

Palestinians recognize Texas as part of Mexico

JERUSALEM – In response to US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, the Palestinian National Authority has announced that it will recognize Texas as a state of Mexico since it was violently annexed by the United States in the 1840s.

“The territory north and east of the Rio Grande is very important to the Mexican people,” explained a PNA spokesperson. “Before American settlers showed up and implemented slavery, Mexico oversaw this land. Then, President Polk sent his armies to invade the rest of these Mexican territories, and force the country to give up California, New Mexico, most of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. We may soon recognize these states as part of Mexico too.”

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says that this is a new approach to Mexican-US relations, and hopes it will help ease the tension between the two countries over security and immigration.

“We understand that the Mexican state of Texas is a sacred place for many large-buckled Americans, but they can rest assured that a two-state solution or a wall was not feasible,” explained Abbas.

“Besides, most people in Texas speak Spanish.”

The Palestinian consulate in Mexico City will soon be moved to Houston to formally recognize the seized territory as part of Mexico.

At press time, President Trump hopes that his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will offer a new path for Middle East violence.

Jerusalem under Israeli control has been about as safe for members of all religions as it's ever been in the last 2,000 years... it's not ideal, but giving control of half the city to neighbors who don't just want to kill all Jews and Christians, but also Muslims as well. Islamic nations are pretty united in their hatred for people who aren't Muslim, but they are also incredibly polarized internally and they kill each other at a rate far superior to other religions or nationalities.

So, you are saying that the overwhelmingly progressive, liberal US media promotes hate.  Well, if that lying, hate promoting media reviles the average American, wouldn’t that mean that the average American is not what the media says he is?  Since the US media is overwhelmingly progressive, I.e. supports the Democrats, and that media is promoting hate, what does that make the Dems and the left?  But that would pretty much square with history, since it is the Dems that got the US into almost every war the US has been in.  Wilson got them into WW1, FDR into WW2, Truman into Korea, Kennedy and Johnson into Vietnam, and progressive Republicans, Bush 1 & 2 got them into the wars in the Middle East.

But basically, I agree that the main stream US media does promote hate.  With the possible exception of Fox, the MSM spews hatred of everything American, just as does their Academia (97%) Democrat.  And who is it they hate?  The average American minding his own business - the people who voted against Hillary - the one who called them “a basket of deplorables”.  But then it was Hillary, as Secretary of State, that promoted the war that destabilized and interfered in Libya, and then told the armed forces to stand down when their embassy in Benghazi was attacked.  The same woman who kept her own server, endangering national security, so that she could keep the Clinton Foundation transactions with the Russians in the dark.  She delivered 20% of US uranium production to Putin in return for 150 million in donations to the Clinton Foundation - a transaction that Obama, Holder, Mueller and Comey all knew about and then tried to cover up by accusing Trump of collusion with the Russians.  So yeah, it is corrupt, but perhaps not in the way you think.

One thing to consider, the Israeli are always fearful of having Tel Aviv nuked.  For all intent and purpose, it's a newer city with no cultural/religious significance..... built from the ground-up by the Jews.  Many enemies would care less if it got wiped out by a nuclear attack.

Moving the important political assets to Jerusalem..... now you have at least 2 primary targets to nuke if you wish to destroy the state of Israel.  The commercial/industrial base of Tel Aviv and the political base of Jerusalem.... the problem is that you can't strike the latter.  So unless some country is crazy enough to turn the 3rd holiest city in Islam (numero uno for the Christians and Hebrews) into a pile of radioactive rubble.... Israel will have minimal fear of being destroyed by force.

That's completely untrue. Jerusalem was at its absolute safest under the rule of Caliph Umar.

I think you have a very romanticised view of what the world was like in 600 AD. It was a very brutal place. Caliph Umar may have been ahead of his time, but everything is relative. The world even 100 years ago was pretty shocking.

Well, in the Bible, isn’t it Jews and Jerusalem?

After all, any people who were given a deed to land by God, must be right about anything and everything. The Bible is where a majority of mercans have learned their history. Why is Trump taking all the flak for what the majority also believes?

I miss Christopher Hitchens.

You better be careful, Dral. Your opinion sounds an awful lot like 'Islamophobia'..you might be asked to report to a local government office for 're-education'.... :P
