Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have acquired forward Nic Dowd from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenceman Jordan Subban.

Dowd, 27, has appeared in 16 games (0-1-1) with the Kings this season where he ranks fourth on the team in faceoff win percentage (51.92%; min. 50 faceoffs). In his first full NHL season in 2016.17, the 6-2, 197-pound forward ranked 10th on the team in scoring with 22 points (6-16-22). Over parts of three AHL seasons, Dowd has recorded 92 points (23-69-92) in 140 games. He has also collected 25 points (12-13-25) in 36 AHL playoff games and in 2015 he registered 13 points (7-6-13) in 19 playoff games, helping the Manchester Monarchs win the Calder Cup championship.

Dowd made his professional debut in 2014, appearing in seven regular season games (0-3-3) and four postseason games (1-0-1) with the Monarchs after wrapping up his collegiate career at St. Cloud State University (NCAA). Dowd, a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2014, recorded 40 points (22-18-40) in 38 games during his senior season in 2013.14.

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Dowd was selected by Los Angeles in the seventh round, 198th overall, at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Glad Subbs may potentially get a shot.   Don't know much about Dowd to be honest.

I trust this management teams decision making.  If they didn't see a player in Subban, then I trust that judgement.  Remember when CDC was freaking out when we traded Shinkaruk?

Not happy to see Subban gone.  Really wanted him to be to given a chance.

I hope he thrives in LA and proves management wrong.

Ummm I hope Dowd wins the hart and multiple cups... Then Subban signs a 7 year 8 million aav deal with the kings, then career tanks, he gets his millions and then the kings get his cap stuck on their roster.

Hope for something good.

Meh trade for me. Dowd can't be any worse than Gaunce though right?

Great trade...

Subban gets a fresh start and we get some more forward depth that we're sorely lacking at the moment.

We also get a guy that's already cracked the NHL as opposed to Subban who is in no man's land when it comes to his NHL potential at defense.

Not surprised at this given his usage in Utica this season. Would've loved to see him crack the lineup down the road with his great offensive game but he just can't seem to figure it out defensively and others have passed him on the depth chart. (Stecher, Pouliot, Holm, McEneny, Juolevi is on the way). May as well get something out of him if he doesn't figure into the Canucks' plans going forward... Dowd seems like centre insurance while Horvat/Sutter are out.

Good at face offs and a bottom 6 NHL player.

0.31 PPG last year in the NHL with good faceoff capabilities, plus he's young.

Overall sounds like a decent deal for us considering Subban may never crack an NHL roster and Dowd has already cracked an NHL roster (and a top echelon one at that).

Disappointing to see him gone but with how well the defense has been doing and the few other defencemen in the pipeline Subban wasn't going to crack the lineup. I think Subban has a little more upside but I don't know anything about Nic Dowd so I can't say this is good or bad.
