Yeah, Canada usually plays on New Year's Eve: 2016 - vs. United States 2015 - vs. Sweden 2014 - vs. United States 2013 - vs. United States 2012 - vs. Russia 2011 - vs. United States 2010 - vs. Sweden 2009 - vs. United States 2008 - vs. United States I was looking through the records and it seems like this year will be the first time Canada doesn't play on New Year's Eve since 2004. It's too bad because it would have been perfect to have this outdoor game on New Year's Eve since it's on a Sunday and it would have probably attracted more viewers. Orchard Park is south of Buffalo so it won't affect the US fan commute. I'm downtown right now so I should see any traffic backup on my way home in the next half hour or so. I guess for an NHL game its fine once per year if Bettman must for sales, but it makes no sense to me to do it for a WJ game where we're trying to see the best prospects perform, all this does is lower it to a gimmick. Hopefully no one gets injured. They did it for money. I think it backfired on them though since the rest of the game's attendance have suffered as a result.
