[Discussion] Post your reclaimation project you think could succeed

Recommended Posts

Emerson Etem Stats | Hockey-Reference.com

Teams often offer the idea of over baking young players in the minors but often prospects are frittered away. If a high draft choice doesn't impress in a top six role often they are discarded.

I think teams should look at what they can offer rather than what they wish for. Etem has speed, size and some skill and I think if he was mentored better towards a bottom six role he would still be on an NHL roster. Prospects like Etem spend a lot of time in the minors in a top six role then are in the bottom six when called up. Is this a failing of NHL teams in general? Valeri Nichuskin. Wouldn't mind acquiring his rights and give a go at him.

Valeri Nichushkin expected to return to NHL for 2018-19 season - SBNation.com

With bouncing back and forth from the KHL and the hip trouble he had maybe the Canucks could pry him loose for Guddy and a draft pic coming our way?

Mason Raymond

Linden Vey

Gilbert Brule

All 3  can still play the game very well.

Does Raymond fit in a bottom six role? And how is his back these days...

Vey could help some teams but I doubt the optics of trying him with the Canucks again would interest management/ownership.

Brule could probably fit on some teams fourth line as a rh shot PP specialist like Gagner last year in Columbus especially with the near extinction of the the enforcer role. At 31yrs old I don't know how many teams would give him a shot.

If the Canucks flip Gagner at the deadline mebbe Brule is a possibility, we need scoring fill ins for a year or two while the prospects filter into the roster.

Slepyshev maybe? Maybe we have enough already tho with Pouliot, Baer and Granny.

His combination of size and skill is tempting but trading with a divisional rival usually comes with a higher cost. Bigger players like this usually don't get banged up as easily as well. If the Canucks are going to flip Goldobin in a package with one or more of the outgoing UFAs he would be an interesting acquisition for sure. Probably middle six ceiling is my guess.
