OTTAWA — Former NHL enforcer Dave "Tiger" Williams is facing several charges, including sexual assault, after incidents on a Canadian Forces aircraft.

The Canadian Forces Provost Marshal's office says the alleged victim reported the incidents in December while Williams was taking part in a morale trip to Latvia.

A spokesman for the office, Lieutenant (Navy) Blake Patterson, says Williams was charged Wednesday with two counts of sexual assault and assault under the Criminal Code and was arrested by military police on Friday.

Williams was released from custody on a promise to appear in court.

A hearing date has not yet been set.

While the military laid the charges, the case will go to civilian court in Ottawa, where the flight originated.

"The accused was a passenger on the flight as part of the sanctioned morale visit to deployed Canadian Armed Forces personnel," Patterson said.

The victim, who is not being identified, reported the assault during the flight, he added.

The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service said it is treating the accusations seriously.

"In all cases, no matter who the accused is, we strive to restore the dignity of victims by fully investigating their complaints, gathering evidence, reconstructing events, and if warranted, laying appropriate charges," the services commanding officer, Lt.-Col. Kevin Cadman, said in a statement.

Williams played in the NHL from 1974 to 1988 on five different teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Difference between USA and Canada as it pertains to sexual assault claims? Our law enforcement does their job, and victims don't spout off to the Media railroading people before due process has a chance to unfold.

Was not really old enough to appreciate the Tiger Williams era of the Canucks, so I have no feelings about this. If guilty I hope he is punished suitably.

Atleast they didn’t associate him with Canucks in the article.

Lets associate him with the Leafs before it's too late...

In all seriousness though, in Sweden rape has a very broad definition, everything pretty much from grabbing a bum all the way to forced intercourse, is it the same with sexual assault in Canada?

Tiger. Down boy. Need to here details before I judge the guy. If he just patted someone on the bum then this is just overblown.

In the old days, a pat on the bum may be OK.

But in todays PC run amok society, a pat on the bum con be considered sexual assault.

Why is a stranger patting a woman on the ass considered 'ok' in ANY time in history????

A stranger's hand on a woman's ass is assault. She did not give permission. Taking exception to that behavior is perfectly within her rights as a woman. It's sad that anyone would consider taking exception to that sort of thing as being "PC run amok". I'm sure if it were a woman closely related to the men who say such things, the story would be very, very different.

Comments such as the ones bolded above are part of the problem.

Is it a crime when a woman does that to a man or does it only go one way?
