[Trade] Oilers trade Brandon Davidson to Islanders for 2019 3rd-round pick

Remember that it's a 2019 third.  If it was for this year it likely would have been a 4th or 5th.

Benning looks right -- picks and prospects are harder to come by now.  Not the first trade so far in which picks aren't for this draft.

Agreed but Benning should still be making these trades. Even if they are 2019 picks he's still around next draft. Heres hoping he can unload some of our extra players.

How do you even define 'these trades'?  A team picks up a 3rd round pick in 2019 and people are acting like Benning is off on a golf course somewhere with no idea what's going on.

however ..the frik was able to play 137 games in the nhl so far after he survived testicular cancer

next question ..whoever will be picked with this 3rd ...will he ever play in the nhl?

oh well ... hes not a great nhl player ..but he´s allwys a good depth addition. further the oilers sucks at this season

look at sekera for an example

He was on waivers just awhile ago was he not?

gagner, nillson, hutton, sutter, vanek, tanev firesale these guys

Not easy to trade these players.. Sutter is valuable but 28, big contract so what could you get for him?? Maybe 3rd rounder..

Nilsson= at most a 5th rounder and there better goalies out there, he is a backup so more of a summer deal...

Vanek 34 = For sure trade for a 3rd.... Grabner got Rangers a 2nd but he is 29 and very fast,  25 goal scorer..

Tanev = should get 1st rounder and prospect, Hard to trade right now injured..Maybe Toronto or Tampa?

Hutton = Trade for a very good prospect that needs a change of address from another team? Winnepeg,Tampa have lots of good prospects..

Gagner = don't think you will get more then a 3rd, he has 22 points in 50 games???? 3.5 million

I think Vanek and Hutton will be traded....

Davidson survived testicular cancer? Good on you, Brandon.

Yes, he was but was that a failure of Montreal to trade him?

Seems like we are suggesting Hutton is worth more but I am not sure about that. Other than being Canucks' fans, what makes us think that? Also bear in mind that Hutton is making twice as much as Davidson and that could be a factor with the Islanders trying to re-sign Tavares.

haha overreact much. All Im saying is that it doesn't hurt Benning to be making trades for next years draft if he's going to be getting better picks. Im not saying he's not doing anything but that he should be aiming for best value. Trading guys like Hutton, Biega, Del Zotto, Vanek, Dowd, granlund aren't going to hurt our future core and only add to it. No matter what we get back.

Any GM who views a 2019 3rd like a 4th or 5th in 2018 is a tool. The next year always comes. You have treat it like a third.

It's easier to move because it doesn't impact you away sure. That pick doesn't lose value because it's next years pick.  Anyone using that as justification is only fooling themselves.

You just answered your own claim -- there is most definitely a time value to these things.  Labeling people as fools and tools doesn't help your case any.
