According to Brian Hedger of the Blue Jackets' team website, the deal is worth a total of $10.8 million and carries an annual cap hit of $2.7 million. The 23-year-old has six goals and 22 points in 59 games this season. He was scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer. A seventh-round pick in 2015, Nutivaara played in 66 games with the Blue Jackets last season, scoring two goals and posting seven points. "Markus is a smart, mobile defenseman who reads the ice very well and excels at moving the puck," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a release. "He has become an important part of our blueline over the past two seasons and we look forward to his continued growth and contributions to our team success moving forward."
