The ideal circumstance in my opinion is the 3 big forwards and wahlstrom goes before we pick. That would be ideal so we can our choice of the defensive litter. (Outside the 1 likely selected before us)

I don't see that as a likely event though lol. Hughes I think will be on a lot of teams lists.  One d for sure will be off the board likely two.

If so, what a lucky bounce for the Canucks.

I think the top 4 is a lock. Dahlin, etc. But after those come the glut of quality Dmen.

My only caveat is for Ottawa, possibly placating it’s fanbase with a Boqvist pick as a consolation prize for the possible departure of Karlsson.

I think the top 4 is a lock. Dahlin, etc. But after those come the glut of quality Dmen.

My only caveat is for Ottawa, possibly placating it’s fanbase with a Boqvist pick as a consolation prize for the possible departure of Karlsson.

I could see Montreal jumping on Hughes or Boqvist even with the third pick.  They probably wouldn't want to drop lower than 1 spot if they had one of those guys lined up.  Does Ottawa and Montreal make a deal?  If Montreal wants to trade down its probably because they don't like the 4th ranked guy at which point it would be easy enough to sit at 4 and hope they skip the guy. Unless you really like him than u pay up  I would ask for a third or two to slide back a spot. I don't see a second round value for that one spot. If it were picking 2 instead of 3 then ya it's worth a 2nd imo.

Montreal is a wild card for me.  Obviously, they need a centre and that is what I think putting the 3OA out there is all about.

1. If they flip the 3OA for a centre, who?  Edmonton (10OA & RNH?)  there are centres available in the 10-15 range (Hayton, Veleno, Kotkaniemi)

2.  If they keep their pick to they go with BPA (Zadina)?  They have high skill on the wing already (Drouin and Galchenyuk) so to they take Tkachuk instead?

3.  Or, do they take the best D available at 3 to replace Sergachev (they may move down to 5-8 to do this)

Keeping in mind that the Habs have 4 2nd round picks

Ottawa is another interesting team because they may go for need and take a highly skilled D if they think they can't sign Karlsson.  I think that Tkachuk would be a welcome addition if he's available.

Ottawa has 2 1sts (Pittsburgh), no 2nd and no 3rd

Both Boqvist and Hughes are only 5 10' 5 11'. Canucks needs someone bigger like Bouchard or Dobson. Get one of them and trade Gudbranson.

Edmonton almost has to do something this offseason.

They could trade one one of their top 3 C for help and get another pick.

People forget how young their core really is.

I could see Edmonton dealing with Ottawa or Montreal and landing Karlsson. They have too much tied up in too few as it is, but anything can happen. Such as trading Poolparty to the Canucks for Tanev.

Edmonton needs a PMD there are plenty in the 5-10 OA range.

Is this the year Philly and Carolina dangle some of their zillion great Dmen prior to the draft?

I like controversy and I suspect someone will doing something unexpected at the draft. So my selections are...

1. Buffalo Rasmus Dahlin

2. Carolina Filip Zadina

3. Montreal Joe Veleno

4. Ottawa Andrew Svechnikov

5. Arizona Brady Tkachuk

6. Detroit Quinn Hughes

7. Vancouver Adam Boqvist

8. Chicago Oliver Wahlstrom

9. NY Rangers Noah Dobson

10. Edmonton Evan Bouchard

I could also see Montreal trading down and grabbing Veleno later and adding another pic instead of just going off the board like this. But it is Bergevin and anything is possible...

The Edmonton situation is thread worthy imo.

Wouldn’t JB trade down if this was his guy?  He could trade down to 15 to 20 and likely get this player.  Going this far off the board rarely, if ever, pans out.

Apparently, a few teams including Montreal really like him. So trading down would mean Montreal or another team might sneak in and steal him.

Let the other teams waste their pick then.  I can’t remember when going off the board this high in the draft ever worked out.

Hopefully he trades down but GMJB does have a track record for going off the board.  No one had Elias Pettersson going at #5, most experts had him in the 9-15 range, some as low as 20.  Back in 2015, some experts thought that Boeser would be a 2nd round pick.  If any GM will  go off the board it will be trader Jim and if they look as good as Pettersson, I'm okay with that.  I like GMs that have the nuts to trade down,  It shows that they are prepared to back their own judgement when the consensus opinion differs from their own.

If memory serves me right. Winnipeg took Mark Scheifele at 7 when he was ranked in the 14-16 range.  That would be the most notable comp but that is for the 7th pick. Not the third so not directly comparable. Shows it has been done though.

We will hear the frustrations of not picking Bouchard only to have Kotkaniemi have an impressive year and silence the doubters.
