I would highly doubt JB would pass on the Swede with a canon. I for one would be very upset if he passed on Boqvist unless Svechnikov dropped.

He's practically eligible for next years draft is more than holding his own against men in the SHL. He will easily put on 10 lbs and an inch this year if not more. Him Pettersson Boeser on the PP would be lethal fire power.

I really like Boqvist as well but he only played 15 games against men in the SHL. In those 15 games he only had 1 assist and was a -7 so it might be a stretch to say that he held his own against men. He did, however, have 24 points in 25 games in their under 20 league so the potential is certainly there. FWIW, this what Canucksarmy had to say:

Speaking of Brady Tkachuk, he passed Adam Boqvist for fourth overall in the aggregated list. Tkachuk’s size, style and bloodlines are pushing him forward, in addition to a strong second half in college hockey. Boqvist hasn’t exactly been cementing his case either. Despite continuing to make the occasional highlight reel, the fact that he struggled to stick in the SHL at any point this season makes it difficult to guarantee him a spot in the top five.

TBH I stopped reading canucks army years ago.

I'm torn between Dobson/Boucher vs Walhstrom. Some say Walhstrom is Boeser 2.0. It would give the Canucks that one two punch; teams can't fixate on just defending against Boeser.

It'd be nice to get a second top ten pick.

Penguins don't seem to need D to win.   Find some studs in later rounds, if Wahlstrom is available - take him.   A hyper-fast forwards with hands, size and scoring touch would take even more pressure off the defense.

Well when you have an offense like Pittsburgh, you can sacrifice a bit on defense...

I thought I read somewhere that Benning said Wahlstrom can play Center and wing. If so I'd still take Kotkaniemi over him anyway if we were targeting centers.

There are several scouting reports stating that his overall game struggles at center and that his game would drastically translate better as a prolific scoring winger.

I see, I see. I guess that makes sense. If he was a good center he'd be playing center. Lol.

We know the smart choice  is to choose a Dman in the upcoming draft. This is evidence by the lack of offense/defensive abilities from our D group the past few years. However , looking at our offensive numbers, we scored the fewest goals in the last 3 season. What I’m trying to say is we suck, we suck for many years and we need help in all areas!!

Benning said he will draft the BPA with the 7th pick. He have interest in drafting a scoring forward to play along Boeser and Pettersson.

“We could take a right winger because by the time this guy is ready to play, Pettersson is probably in the middle.

“(Wahlstrom) can play centre too, and we want to be sure we get the best guy here.”

( The Province )

Drafting Tkachuk makes sense  of course. But most likely he won’t be at the 7th spot when we get there.

Wahlstrom got size (6’1 200 pounds), can dangle in a phoneboth ,high IQ,  and owns one of the best shots  in the draft. His shot have been comparable to Boeser! He got one of the highest ceiling in the draft. If we can draft a potential first line winger, compare to a 2 pairing Dman, I’m sure Benning will go with first line potential.

If Boqvist is still available at 7th, I would be equally happy to have Boqvist as a Canucks. However, besides the top 3 picks, I believe Boqvist and Wahlstrom have the highest ceilings! But, when you got a 6’1 200 pounds, power winger/centre that have this much skills? It’s hard for Benning to past over...

What do you guys think? Who you think will be available at 7th and who you want to be picked?

On paper, I like Wahlstrom, however, he's said to take a lot of shifts off and disappears altogether when things aren't going well.

Just said in another thread that JB likes to do the unexpected.

Wouldn't be surprised if he picks someone most have ranked lower.

This guy would be a monster in playoff hockey. He’s throwing some big hits and has tons of skill. Imagine him and Virtanen with Gaudette on a line. For those saying boqvist I’d prefer Dobson over him for a few reasons. Dobson is much taller and will grow into his frame in a few years, and he also put up fairly better numbers in his junior year than joulevi did. Look at Winnipeg size with skill and speed is deadly. At the end of the day I’d be happy with Dobson or Wahlstrom, I’d be disappointed with Boqvist.

How's that working for Edmonton?

In first round BPA always.  We need quality at every position especially centre and D.  We have some decent wing prospects.  Kind of hinges on where EP ends up playing.

Regardless the D needs a complete tear down and rebuild.  We have what one good D prospect, 2 decent D prospects.  Probably two top 4 NHL Dmen, one of whom is getting long in the tooth and one who is injured half the season.  The rest of our D are essentially bottom pairing or specialist guys.  We really need to focus on drafting D throughout the draft but again at 7 BPA.

If we don't draft a defenseman, I'll be disappointed. The only case to be made against it IMO is if we sign Karlsson or Doughty in a couple years or to a lesser extent Carlson this offseason, if the BPA is a forward that the management group considers significantly better than the D-men available.
