(Signing) Utica Comets sign two.

Recommended Posts

McMaster had a strong showing for Utica.  Offensively produced when injuries piled up while playing on the top line with Chaput and Jasek.

Interesting about Jagger Dirk, played Canadian University Hockey after going undrafted/unsigned after playing in the WHL and BCHL.

Utica Comets have signed Tanner McMaster and Jagger Dirk to AHL contracts for 2018-19.

Dirk is the son of former Canuck defenseman Robert Dirk.

Was gonna ask until I read your whole short post.

Robert Dirk was part of the 94 team, was he?

I'm honestly shocked the Canucks haven't locked in Tanner MacMaster on an ELC. He and Jasek were huge surprises late in the AHL season this past year. He's worth an ELC. I wonder if the Canucks will up the contract over the course of the summer if they invite MacMaster to training camp/rookie camp?

Also... Jagger Dirk... what a name.

Tanner McMaster, 22, left shooting centre, 5'10" 172, 4 years at Quinnipiac 33 points in 38 games his senior year.  Good school.

Jagger Dirk, 25, LHD, 6'0" 198, 4 years with Kootenay Ice 48 points in 69 games as a 20 year old followed by 4 years with St FX (Cdn Uni) 28 points in 30 games as a senior

Sorry the post was so short. Was distracted....I posted because I know a lot of guys here follow Utica and McMaster was another player who made an impact when injuries presented him with an opportunity. I like the signings, although I suspect that Dirk will be taking a roster spot with Kalamazoo next season...

Not surprised about McMaster. Watched 3 games of the Marlies-Utica series, McMaster was one of the few players who stood out for Utica. Small but very fast, lots of hustle.

I got to one of the Marlies Comets games live and the two guys I felt stood out were Dahlen and McMaster

Agreed. While Dahlen only had 1 assist in the playoffs his high skill level was apparent and he had a lot more hustle than Goldobin. That said, if Goldobin can put up over a ppg floating around the ice imagine what he could do with a fire under his ass.

McMaster reminds me a bit of Gallagher in the way he plays, but likely doesn't have the high-end skill. That said, his game seemed to translate very well to pro. Where he is going to struggle is finding a role given his lack of size, although with the NHL moving the way it is these little fiery players may end up becoming more predominant bottom 6 player who can bring speed and energy than your traditional big checking line player.
