Tre Mac
Someone posting a quote from reddit quoting someone from HF boards on CDC. My god that's the trifecta Johnny. I'll throw out two names, this is purely guessing: 2017 - Michael Rasmussen(DET) 2016 - Michael McLeod(NJ) Juolevi could game a lot but not at an addiction level, I doubt it's him. It would be our luck though.

Blue Jay 22
Don't think it's Jones. Decent junior numbers and also made the wjcs. Would be a pretty sharp downward spiral if it was.

And he actually just had an absolute dominant playoffs. I was low on the kid during the draft, but his play this year has actually changed my mind on his potential. The_Rocket
Id be shocked if it was joulevi. Marek seems certain that the player in question wont make the NHL, but nost scouts and analyst have joulevi as a surefire NHLer with top 4 potential. Im sure most young players in juniors and pro hockey play a lot of video games. I remember the “Blog Boeser” blogs from training camp Brock mentioned that he and Demko would do nothing but play NHL 18 and watxh Netflix during their time off. Neither of them seem to have a video game addiciton that is hampering their careers. Just because a player (eg. Joulevi) plays a lot of games or has a video game compulsion doesnt mean theyre not also addicted to hockey and are willing to do whatever they can to make the NHL and there is probably a lot of players similar to joulevi who have/will go on to have great careers. The player in question sounds to have a very serious problem, beyond normal gaming compulsion
kloubek
Video game addition. That's a bunch of bullcrap. Are video games fun? Sure. But to be ADDICTED to them? Come on. I suppose a person could get "addicted" to anything. Personally, I'm addicted to sports cars. Doesn't mean I have to sit in one, look at one or research one at all times. An addition like this is a lack of self control. Nothing more. The "addition" is a cover-up for a guy simply not being interested enough in his career to put the effort in. HerrDrFunk
It really doesn't sound like Joulevi to me. From the way Marek phrased everything, it sounds like this is about a player that's still in junior. Not to mention that while Joulevi clearly had an adjustment period in Finland, his year got stronger as it went on and he finished fourth in voting for rookie of the year. I have nothing to retort with, but maintain my position that claiming ADDICTION to video games is a bunch of hogwash. It's a lack of self-control - which would become apparent regardless of whether it was video games, drugs, or even just a general lack of effort. Addiction. Addiction. Addiction. The_Rocket
I’ll add to that i see some people laughing at the idea of video game addiction, and while it does seem somewhat ridiculous, it’s a very serious problem for many people, especially amongst young men. Video games aren’t designed to be fun the entire time youre playing, but rather they offer difficult challenges and patterns and strategies for you to master, and acheiving success releases large amounts of dopamine in the brain which can be VERY addictive. Without this payoff, games would just be frusterating, confusing, and annoying (like math homework or somethig similar). This addiction can be as serious and life changing as addictions to gambling, marijuana, pornography, or alcohol. It can lead to other anti-social behavious such as theft or srug use to support or suplement the addiction. And themote often the gamer receives their dopamine high, the more immune they become to its affect, so they have to play more games and acheive more rewards to get the same feeling (this is similar to getting high or watching porn or winning black jack). It can cause the person to become distant with friends and family, ifnore healthy lifestyle habits like eating and excercise, disregard personal hygien, and put off more important priorities like work and school (or hockey). TL;DR video game compulsion/addiction can be very harmful to an individual and they deserve the same sympathy and treatment as any other addict

I played a lot of World or Warcraft back in the day, over a year of game time sadly. Yes that right, I played over 365 days of game time on that time sink of a game. Not proud to admit that. I was very depressed during that time, and had little will to hang out and do the same ol' same ol' with friends. Some of my friends played, and that game was the only way I communicated with them for a couple of years. Was that an addiction? Hmmm probably. But after awhile I just got bored and didn't like the changes and addons so I just quit playing. There was no withdrawal or anything, I just had enough. The amount of time I spent behind the computer screen is on par with the amount of time North Americans spend watching tv. After a long day at work sometimes you just want to 'veg' out.
