[QUESTION] RULES ABOUT PROSPECT TRADES

Does a prospect have to be signed to their draft team, in the given time from draft day, in order to be eligible for trade?

If it does matter, makes sense why JB is signing all his 2017 picks...

He’s signing all his picks because he’s trying to rebuild and does not want aquilini telling him who to sign in the offseason to mess with the rebuild....

Either that or you know.... he believes in the picks he’s made.

It doesn't matter if a player is signed or not, you could trade the rights to sign a player instead of the actually contract.

But that's not the reason he signed many of the 2017 draft. He signed them because the are excelling this year and some of those player will be playing in the farm team next year.

JB did a great job restocking a very bear prospect cupboard.  Now he’s signing them up.  In a year or two most of these young guys will be hoisting our first Cup.  Why trade away future Cup winners?

You should have a look at this thread:

The Trades, Rumours and Signings thread is for actual trades.

But JB is signing players in advance of them trying out at camp next season. There isn't really a "sign and trade" option for prospects like there is for free agents.
