I’ve been on the Filip Hållander hype train for a while and still believe, should he still be on the board at #37, he’d be a great pick for us.

But there are plenty of guy I’d like at #37, probably too many to mention.

Hållander’s just been my 2nd round target for so long, so I see no reason to change now.

Plus I like the idea of another Timrå connection. Seems like those have worked out fairly well for us. ;)

By the way, Hållander is closer to 6’2” than 5’11” (as listed in the OP’s #42). His recent combine measurements were 6’1.75” and 188.38 lbs.

#1 Olofsson (probably goners by 37)

Projection: Real good Middle 6 Center

#2 Hållander

Projection

Middle 6 power Forward, not afraid to get dirty and plays with alot of heart

I hope this thread hasn't already been created somewhere but since the #7 overall pick has been discussed to death in the other thread i'm interested to hear what people think the targets for the #37 overall pick should be. I've compiled a draft list based on reading various scouting reports and lists of rankings. I've based the rankings Bob Mckenzie, Craig Button, Corey Pronman from the Athletic and Canucks Army. The sources I trust more I have weighted a little bit more heavily. I've also included height, position and combine top 10 results.

Based on the information we have our disposal, I'm thinking that the Canucks most likely targets at 37 will be a defenseman. A lot depends on who drops into the 2nd round obviously and there are too many variables to know anything for certain. I'm going to narrow it down to top 10 choices for defenceman and for forwards in the event Benning gambles on a forward who dropped (like Tolvanen last year). Overall, I think it makes more sense for them to shore up the prospect depth on defence as will certainly be many solid D men available where they are picking. I'm even for them grabbing Wahlstrom with the first pick and picking more for need in the other rounds. They cannot afford to mess up #7.

Defence targets for 37:  (in no particular order)

(I would include K'andre Miller and Ryan Merkely but they will likely be gone)

1 Alexander Alexeyev

2. Jared Mcissac

3. Jonny Tychonick

4.Jacob Bernard Docker (great combine results)

5. Rasmus Sandin

6. Calen Addison

7. Nils Lundkvist

8. Mattias Samuelson

9. Jett Woo

10. Nicholas Beaudin

Not having seen these players play but going on stats and combine results I would choose between Docker, Tychonick and Lundkvist.

Forwards:

1. Jacob Olofsson

2. Martin Kaut

3. Jack McBain

4. Ty Dellandrea

5. Jake Wise

6. Liam Foudy (insane combine results)

7. Filip Hallander

8. John Gruden

9. Jessie Ylonen

10. Benoit Olivier-Groulx

(the three that intrigue me the most here are Mcbain, Foudy and Dellandrea)

I want to trade down a few picks and get our 4th round pick back as well as pick up Kevin Bahl anywhere between #40-50....just not sure he falls too #50...

He had a great combine, he can skate, he can hit and he can shoot....and his NHL playing size will likely be about 6'7" and 240 Lbs or so....

I liked him in the top prospects game. Curiously Canucks Army left him out of their top 100. Its surprising since they are usually very thorough in regards to prospects. I think he'd be a good target for their 3rd round pick if he's not off the board yet.

It was a bit of a strange omission. CA had him 90th in their spring rankings, so I'm not sure why they've now dropped him out of their top-100. Maybe he just got passed by guys that moved up their list?

But if anything, I'd have thought he'd be the one to move up (at least from a 90th ranking). I really liked him in the WJC-18. Not just for his size, defensive ability, and skating, but also some very impressive puck rushing and playmaking in the offensive zone that I didn't really think he quite had in his toolbox (at least not the the extent he demonstrated on a few of his shifts that I really noticed during that tournament).

And I believe their model (pGPS) has Bahl at around a 23% likelihood of success (to reach 200 or more NHL GP), which you'd think should've put him quite easily in their top-100.

Is he a physical player? Just curious because a guy like Weircioch has a lot of the same attributes, but is having trouble cracking a roster and I imagine it's not utilizing the size. Even a guy like Dougie Hamilton who is excellent offensively, doesn't provide much else and is deemed as an expendable player (for decent value though). The size and skill is intriguing, but I'd like to see a guy that size at least be willing to battle much like Tryamkin did even though he doesn't play the game with that edge.

2 goals in the last two seasons says otherwise in the shooting dept.

Big.  But I am not up for that pick.  Benning can and will do better.

Big fan of Alexeyev, considered a great 2 way dman, strong at both ends, has some injury concerns over the last 2 seasons.  He has strong character though, and that is what I find most impressive and tragic at the same time, his Mom passed away mid-season, (may she rest in peace), and he made the decision to come back and keep playing, and not only come in and play but play a strong 2 way defensive game.

Wasn't on my radar, but looking more into him and he would definitely be an interesting pick. Depends who's available when we pick.

Earlier I mentioned my list, and I would put Alexeyev after Ginning and maybe bump Bahl to be a 3rd round pick as I don't think I'd use a 37th overall on him.

My list for the 2nd rounder if they're available would be Noel, Olofsson, Miller, Kaut, Bokk, Hallander, Ginning, Alexeyev, Lundkvist, Samuelsson, Wise in that order.

For our 3rd rounder, hopefully O'Brien is still available, but I like Kurashev and maybe Bahl falls to our 3rd rounder which would be a solid defensive pick.

5th round and on is surely hard to predict but Kristian Reichel, Milos Roman, Kyle Topping, or Justus Annunen would be good choices if still available. If Durzi is available in the 6th round or so, I wouldn't mind taking a look at him.

I think Noel, Kaut, Miller, Bokk and possibly Samuellson go in the 1st round, but damn I would be happy with any of them dropping to our pick.  Olofsson played with Dahlen didn't he for Timra, so there is that familiarity there that Benning always likes.  There are the safe picks in dmen such as Ginning and Alexeyev in that they are both already very strong defensively.  Take a look at Beaudin if you get a chance, he is considered one of the best passers in the draft on the back end, only 5ft11, but time to grow an inch or 2.  Him and Lundqvist would be considered picks with higher ceilings.  Here is a good article on Beaudin.

https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/nhl-entry-draft-picks-2018/2018/5/2/17300656/nicolas-beaudin-2018-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-stats-highlights-scouting-puck-moving-defenceman

The undersized defenceman is not a playmaker of the same calibre as some of the top blue-liners in the draft, like Ryan Merkley and Adam Boqvist, as he doesn't toy with with defenders in the same way, moving them to create scoring chances for himself and his team. No, Beaudin simply has a great awareness of what is going on around him at all times, and can feed pucks to teammates before the opposition has any chance to close off passing lanes. He is incredibly precise when moving the puck and can thread the needle to reach teammates even from across the ice.

A lot of Beaudin's points are secondary assists, and this has to be stated to put his totals into perspective. But those points also originate from his ability to constantly create clean breakouts for his team, even under pressure.

He is very calm with possession, and can bait forecheckers before giving the puck to his defence partner, setting him up for an easy zone exit. Beaudin is also adept at short saucer passes, and can directly spring his forwards into action.

And when it strikes him, he can also carry the puck out of the zone himself all the way to the other end.

Looks like they don’t have Bernard-Docker in their top-100. Nor do they have Bahl. Also a couple Russians in Marchenko and Iskhakov (a commenter on their site noted these omissions) who are on many other top-100 lists.

Not sure if some of these are accidental or if these players just didn’t score well on CA’s ranking methodology.

Either way, I’m not gonna fault Biech and the other CA boys too much. Top-100 lists are pretty tough to put together without missing a few guys (either intentionally or unintentionally) that people think deserve to be included.

But they have managed to create an interesting overall ranking with some lengthy, detailed profiles for each player on their list. It’s a great resource, as far as free draft rankings go, and has some fresh takes that are quite different from many other lists and reports.

That's ok. I got it. Still a little too high at 37 to be drafting him though.
