If podkolzin turned into J.T. Miller I’d be pretty happy. Is that not the case? Effective top 6 winger. Not a fan of the trade because I don’t think it’s time to start swinging for the fences for Vancouver. But the value of the trade is absolutely fair.

Is it as much of a dumpster fire as twitter and reddit?

It’s all just too reactionary for me. Everyone seems to be fixed on the pick, Or, puzzlingly, upset we gave up an asset for a contract dump?

I haven’t really seen any argument that says miller isn’t worth that pick.

Not the biggest fan on Miller but might just be the American thing... I should be more open minded and judge less by country of origin... After all the greatest human being on the planet is from USA... Brock Boeser...

Again not the biggest fan of JT (yet) but the time to win the cup is absolutely now imo... We have Petey on ELC for 2 more years.... He'll be making north of 11 mill once that's over. The time to go cup or Bust is in the next two years.

So... Cup or Bust!

Anaheim to fire all scouting staff after late pick goes undrafted

GM Jaku released the following statement: "It's tough. We had a good pick in the later rounds, i asked for a home run and we struck out. Time to burn this b**ch down."

He was also seen in his office with a bottle of Jack, a tv and what seemed to be a gaming console.

Well that wraps up our biggest draft day to date. We went in with a ton of picks, and came out with a bit of everything. A few meat and potato's Puck-Specials. A few fun Zoom Zoom smurf passion projects. A couple of our favorite sneaky un-drafted 2018 picks. One really solid trade. A set of funny matching names for the luls. What else can you ask for?

 9   :   Trevor Zegras                    -2

19  :   Lassi Thompson             +16

28  :   Ryan Suzuki                       -4

29   :  Rasmus Sandin  (2018 1st)

34   :   Bobby Brink                     -13

47   :  Drew Helleson                 +40

53   :   Nicholas Robertson       -11

75   :   Adam Beckman             +24

82   :  Mikael Vukojevic            +19

89  :  Mac Hollowell  (2018 4th)

95 :   Connor Dewar (2018 3rd)

110 Ryder Donovan                +11

114:  Dmitri Voronkov              +18

131:  Rhett Pitlick                     -14

135:  Isaiah Saville                   +18

173:  Benjamin Brinkman        -22 (But totally worth it)

We are happy to say that all 16 of our players got drafted IRL: no misses this year. Excluding our 2018 draft scoop-ups, we have a net gain of +80. Honestly I like most of our guys that fell a bit more than the ones that rose a bit (Lassi Thompson is flattered, but slightly confused by his pick at 19).

Big thanks to the mods for the most exhausting week of the year, and to anyone who offered us trades that we didn't have time to answer.

Cole Caufield -7

Simon Holmstrom +15

Oleg Zaitsev undrafted. Not sure what held him back, but he was rated in the 3rd round by multiple scouts and mock drafts

Harrison Blaisdell -14

Judd Caulfield -14

Still happy with our picks and look forward to Zaitsev making himself a pick next year.

#13 Raphael Lavoie (-25)

#33 Egor Afanasyev (-12)

#75 Ilya Konovalov (-10)

Lavoie was a huge whiff by me. But I don't think ANYBODY expected him to fall out of the 1st round.

Egor and Ilya were good picks IMO. I'm actually surprised Kono went in the 3rd round IRL. I figured GMs would pass on him and just sign him. Hopefully Oilers don't kill him.

#002 Jack Hughes (+1)

#029 Albin Grewe (-37)

Very happy with this draft. Drafted Grewe in Puck for physicality. I'm a little disappointed he dropped so hard? but not surprised. Good draft overall, and I'm very happy where each prospect ended up.

Also want to thank all the GMs - couldn't have gone so smoothly without you all.

I think the NHL teams place a lot more weight on the exact age and physical maturity of players then we do. He doesn’t have much more growing to do, and is one of the oldest first time eligible draftees. I guess teams just expected more out of someone like that? He’s still a top 40 pick though!

  • 1st - Kaapo Kakko, NYR (-1)
  • 6th - Kirby Dach, CHI (+3)
  • 17th - Ville Heinola, WPG (-3)
  • 35th - Lassi Thomson, OTT (+16) [Traded]
  • 55th - Shane Pinto, OTT (+23)
  • 58th - Marshell Warren, MIN (-108)
  • 62nd - Daniil Misyul, NJD (-8)
  • 63rd - Pyotr Kochetkov, CAR (+27)
  • 64th - Nikita Okhotyuk, NJD (+3)
  • 114th - Matias Maccelli, ARZ (+16)
  • 137th - Alexei Protas, WSH (+46)

+122 if you disregard the whiff that was Marshall Warren (though I still believe he will be an NHLer some day), +14 if you include it haha. Overall a great draft for the Red Wings and look forward to seeing what all of these players do in the coming years!

Yes, I've heard that. I've also heard his biggest knock is consistency and work ethic. But he really turned on his jets in the playoffs. I mean, 20 goals in 23 games...

A few big misses for me on Kokkonen, Sarrela and Hoglander (to a lesser extent). Overall still very happy with the draft. I wonder how much weight was given to Krebs' injury causing him to drop or if the teams just had him ranked in the mid-teens/liked someone better at their spot.

Also - I think I picked the wrong guy. Dallas picked Harley Thomas at 18, hope I got the right one.

I’m amazed a guy who is wealthy enough to own a hockey team doesn’t have the mental capacity to say the correct name. Even with the crowd and TV, did you never have to address a very large crowd before?

Funny moment that I’m sure will be played just as often as the giroux clip.
