I just cant see Ottawa passing on a defensemen given the likelihood of losing Karlsson.

Thing is, now they're dealing with the likelihood of losing Hoffman, and perhaps Duchesne too (doubt he wants to re-up in that mess). Their top existing prospect is Chabot.

Ottawa just needs to go BPA, every time.

They're a mess -_- I agree with whoever said they should just give the Av's this years 1st and just restart.

Took all of the draft rankings I can find out there from North America and Europe - includes the well known like Bob McKenzie, Ryan Kennedy, ISS, Central Scouting, Craig Button etc. and others not so well known.   Not weighted in any way.   Simply put them all in a spreadsheet and got the average ranking for each player and here is where the "experts" (for lack of a better term) have aligned on average.   Not my ranking and I would have this BUT I could see this happening next weekend.   For what it is worth, here it is:

1.      Rasmus Dahlin (D)
2.      Andrei Svechnikov (RW)
3.      Filip Zadina (LW)
4.      Oliver Wahlstrom (C/RW)

5.      Brady Tkachuk (C/LW)
6.      Quinn Hughes (D)
7.      Adam Boqvist (D)
8.      Evan Bouchard (D)
9.      Ty Smith (D)
10.      Noah Dobson (D)

I am pretty sure more Canuck fans and their management would not be overly upset to have the four Dmen listed above from 7 to 10 available for their deliberations.

I am so big on Wahlstrom! I know we need a high end defensive pick but Wahlstrom just has dominant look to him, I believe him to be better than Tkachuk. I really hope the Canucks land one of Wahlstrom, Boqvist Dobson in that order.

If a team between 3 and 7 wants a D man then the forwards drop. Being that there is no centers in this group it could easily happen.Centers and D are usually coveted more then wingers. What I am reading is that from 3 to 10 things just come down to who your scouts like the best. This could go anyway.

Is Montreal rebuilding or are they all about now. Tanev, Sutter and Baer. Is there something we might have that could be used to pry that pick from them. Probably not but landing another pick in the top 7 would be what I would call a rebuilding move.

This draft could go pretty much anyway.  Really past the first 3 there is no consensus.  Hope we get a D though Kotkaniemi could sneak up into that top ten and sounds like a solid number 2 C.  Just not really interested in Tkachuk but any of the rest of the top 12 players would probably be happy with.  Ty Smith hasn't got as much press as the rest of these guys but also sounds like a great puck moving D prospect.

I am very excited to see what happens over the next week and really, really, really hope we see trader Jim come back (Just not involving the 7th pick unless it is to move up).  Time to tear this D down and rebuild it.  Some decent players (though not enough) but a bad mix.

That's a shame.  I know we really need D like a pornstar but I would love to have Wahlstrom or Tkachuk on this team going forward.

Absolutely.   Most of us are starving for skill and entertainment.  I won’t be one bit upset if we take wahlstrom or tkachuk.

I am really unsure who I want them to draft.  Lots of good options with pros and cons. I think any of the 4 D (I expect Hughes to be long gone by then though) or Tkchuk, Whalstrom or even Kotkaniemi.  Of the 6 there with 3 being gone I still am unsure if I would go hard for a D or one of these good centers (all 3 are supposed to be able to play center but will they in the NHL?).  Either way I don't think I can criticize whoever gets picked.

One of those top 7, regardless of who is available, would be the one I hope the Canucks go with. Boqvist or Hughes would be a great addition to the defence, but a forward like BT or Wahlstrom drops to your lap at 7, you don't pass that up.

I'll be very surprised if Kotkaniemi is not taken in the top 10.

As far as 7 is concerned, I think there are that many players in the mix - it's nearly impossible to write off any of Hughes, Wahlstrom, Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi, Boqvist, Bouchard, Dobson as possibilities at 7.

And additionally, Benning has been anything but predictable with his first round picks - he never really tips his hand and tends to actually run some misdirection by talking about players quite glowingly before the draft that he then passes on when it's time to lay his cards down.

It would be hard to be disappointed with any of those players - it's that hard to separate them.

Almost as interesting is who will be available at 37.

Focusing on D (impossible to say who'd be bpa at this point) - but as far as D are concerned, I've had Nils Lundkvist/Lundqvist as a hopeful for some time, but it's looking more and more like he'll be gone by 37.  Alexeyev also likely to be gone.

Jett Woo might be still be around in that range.  Also like Mattias Samuelson as a more hard nosed option if we get a pmd at 7.

Perhaps a guy like Ty Emberson in the 3rd if they're looking to load up a few RHD in the pool.

Certainly seems like an unusually deep draft for rhd.

Thanks for the work Rob......….interesting

I wondered about that before...……..just too lazy to put in the time

Hey, in your travels, did you ever see which one of all the ranking companies/people had the highest acracy?

Year in year out...…..who do we trust, other than you? :)

I have actually never done that...I have the spreadsheet so will this year.   Great idea Janis!

Good job. But doesn’t bobs final list not come out till Monday? Or did you just use list from over the course of the entire year?

Ya, a few guys are still "finalizing".  With Bob M I took it from the last update he did.   My guess his will change for sure....hearing him a lot more later pumping tires on Dobson and pulling back on a few others.    My next week is a lot busier so I cheated and did it with what was out there to yesterday.   For what it is worth, Saturday morning here and Canucks are still drafting 7th.....

Do you still got that spreadsheet handy?  Curious if you have a ranking for ryan merkley or did u just do top 15?

I did top 10 with this sorting.....I could do more but it is a bit tedious when players don't get ranked by some people....a few players this year were in first round with some and as late as 3rd round with others and then some guys only give their first round lists (or top 10-20 or so) so players like Merkley were even not on a few lists....which I know is crazy.
