Oh you pop in and whisper sweet nothings, then you're gone. CDC getting played.

? Uh, you need some help dude?

CDC getting played if people don't have time to log in for period of time?

What an odd fellow (no offense if intended if you are another gender or several) you are.

Cheers and trust me, the last thing I would ever whisper in YOUR ear would be sweet nothings.    :)

I don't mind Green, but it does frustrate me that he is more of the, "they need to earn their spot", then a "put them in a situation to succeed", type coach.

Hughes seems to be the latest affected by it. I know, it's been 2 games. But this guy is the top-ranking prospect in the NHL right now, and is known by all scouts to be a Powerplay specialist D-man. Yet, he gets less then a minute on the powerplay.

Someone tell Green that we're out of the playoffs, and the people in the stands are wanting to see what Hughes can do. No one wants to see more Ryan Spooner than Quinn Hughes.

They burned a year off his elc to get him here and because of his foot, he will only see 7 games or so.  Just rotate the d all 60 minutes and get him that valuable experience everyone talks about.

He doesn't need to play 22+ minutes to get said 'valuable experience'.

I never said he did.

Take away OT and he got 13 minutes. In the third, he got 4 shifts for 2.5 minutes. Up until the third the bucks were up two goal with Hughes playing mors shifts and he was plus 1. In the third Green basically sat him and played Hutton 9 shifts as the team have up the lead and button went -2.

No knock on hutton but at this stage of the season, what is the point of that deployment? It's not like the kid was hurting them and it would have been good to see how he performed in that situation.

I don't care if he burned a year, I'm just glad he won't be eligible for the Seattle expansion.

This to me is the more significant of the two.

I find it hard getting upset that he was sheltered in the 3rd in one of Dallas most important games of the season. He’s been fine, but like EP had to, he needs to figure out how to deal with the physical stuff and also how to defend when glued in the D zone.

Really happy to to see his passing and skating translate to seamlessly to the pro game anyhow.

Would've been nice to see him play a bit more in the 3rd, but hes still adjusting to the NHL. I dont have a problem sheltering him.

When it comes to moving the puck quickly hes already one of our best D but you can see he needs a bit of work covering under sustain pressure. I think he's already improved from the Brown shift against LA (more attentative), but no sense putting him in over his head.

As long as hes not totally benched im fine with it. Would like to see him get around 15 mins p/g (atleast) from here on out.  And hopefully some shifts on PP1.

How should he learn that from the bench?

Indeed. I don't see how burning Hughes or Boeser or Pettersson's ELC ( if they did for the other two), is a big deal. Our team is not close to competing. These kids are the core pieces, on the backs of whom we will compete in the next 3+ years, hopefully. Ie, these are the core pillar guys and we won't be competing till they are in their second multi-million a year contract. So why are people upset at burning a year off of a core member's ELC ?

Its not like we are in the position of Chicago of few years ago - aging core with massive contracts, very little cap manueverability and needing 'skilled youngsters on their ELC to fit the cap and win the cup' scenario. We may be in that position in the future, but then the ELC we will care not to burn wont be QH's.

Tbh it can also work out extremely well. See Brock... in year two he's producing about as well as he did in year 1, maybe slightly lesser. Lots of players go through a sophmore slump and then break out again in year 3. We'll likely sign Brock to a 3-5 year bridge contract and save a lot of money after year 1 of that contract as he continues to imporve, giving us more flexibility to sign our other emerging stars and a supporting cast.

I agree that its possible you lose out on an extra year of low-cap hit ELC but when you factor in the above and other positive factors of bringing a young player in late in the year, such as a head start on development, giving them an idea of what they need to work on in the summer, and increasing player loyalty but rewarding them with some NHL time and money after a good year of progress and proving themselves, I think bring top prospects in at the end of the year is calculated move that more often than not ends up being a net-positive decision.

Yeah. you said that already.

It's almost like it's a valid point!

I get that some people are eager and want him to do well, but patience is a virtue here. Don't have patience? Well, good luck with your future ulcers.

That’s a valid point, but my thinking is that the coaches want him to have a bit of an adjustment period, not going straight from junior to NHL crunch time.

Or maybe they just felt other players deserved the ice time more.

Either way it’s fine by me, Quinn’s time will come soon enough.

Play the kid 20 mins. Let him make mistakes. We watched EG and Pouliot make mistakes all season.

Now in these meaningless games why so scared if Hughes makes a mistake.

Let him learn and grow.  Makes zero sense to bench him in the 3rd period when we're already out of the playoffs.

These 5 games will be perfect for Hughes. It looks like he's already best friends with Boeser and Pettersson and I imagine those boys will be working out hard this off-season. These few games gives Hughes a chance to see what he needs to do to be a top Dman in this league. Next year is going to be fun to watch. An even more confident and developed Pettersson and Hughes showing up to camp. Maybe Juolevi makes it as well? Woo also has an outside shot.

I like your enthusiasm and agree that it should be a treat to watch this trio of Hughes, Petey and the Flow as they develop Chemistry between them next year.

IMO, I do think it is a bit of a stretch for either Juolevi or Woo to make it right out of training camp. I can see Juolevi getting called up from Utica by Christmas and perhaps Woo towards the end of the regular season but that will depend on how well Woo adapts to the rigors of playing in the AHL
