Laheys Liquor
Some respect for the Canucks, from a respectable elite Canadian player, from a respectable Canadian franchise.. https://www.nhl.com/news/jets-scheifele-nhl-awards-in-players-tribune/c-316786518?tid=281396148 Quote Mark Scheifele is keeping busy during the paused NHL season by handing out some awards. The Winnipeg Jets forward did the honors for a trio of real NHL trophies and a couple he made up on the fly for The Players Tribune on Thursday. Scheifele sees the Calder Trophy competiton for NHL rookie of the year as a two-horse race between defensemen: Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks. Scheifele also mentions Chicago Blackhawks forward Dominik Kubalik but his winner is Hughes. For the Hart Trophy, give to the NHL MVP, Scheifele writes he knows how good Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are, and acknoledges the seasons of Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon and Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak. But he goes off the board and says he would vote for Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Eichel. For his Vezina Trophy winner as the top goalie, Scheifele makes the easy call and singles out teammate Connor Hellebuyck. Scheifele opted to pass on picking any other winners and instead made up a pair of his own. His Favorite Goal of the Year was McDavid's filthy deke against the Toronto Maple Leafs, when he crossed up defenseman Morgan Rielly by appearing to commit to passing and then beat goalie Frederik Andersen high glove side. Scheifele's second made up award was his Favorite Players to Watch. He states he is a fan of Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, Canucks forward Elias Pettersson and New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal, even going as far as saying Barzal is only a few seasons away from leading the NHL in scoring. 1
Popular Post SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Nice story with the Hughes bros: https://www.nhl.com/news/quinn-hughes-jack-hughes-meet-fans-outside-usa-hockey-arena/c-317008104?tcid=tw_news_content_id But in this age of Covid-19, I can’t help looking at this pic and thinking, oh ****, Quinn doesn’t have his mask on properly. And then I see this pic and think, oh ****, some of the people getting food aren’t wearing masks. And then I think, oh ****, this is happening in Michigan, where people do this **** during a pandemic And then I think, please oh please, for the love of Gord, let the hockey gods protect our dear Quinn from the Rona. 4 1

Nave
Hughes should win because he was more important to his team. But, Makar is deserving as well.

Pete M
Can't see a player who is associated with Leetch and Orr in the same sentence for winning the Rookie scoring title not winning the Calder.
wildcam
All that I can say is we are so lucky to have Mr.Quinn Hughes wearing blue and getting the fans so excited each time he gets on the ice.. This young Bobby Orr of todays hockey will excite fans for the next 12 years. His skating top notch, work ethic, maturity, discipline, Quinn Hughes will have a big "A" on his jersey with his values.. We are so lucky to have Pettersson 21, Hughes 20 playing in Vancouver..These two young guns are NHL stars for many years... To be fair, had Makar played the same number of games, it's likely the same would be said about him. We're talking about two legendary rookie seasons in the same year. Both Barzal and Boeser had amazing rookie seasons for sure, but I'd put Hughes and Makar even above that--closer to Ovechkin vs Crosby rookie seasons. Not saying either guy will be as good as those two legends, but as far as rookie seasons go, that's where I see it at.

dpn1
2 Runner-up and 1 Calder winner in the last 3 years. Something the Canucks have never done.

I'm guessing this one? https://www.nhl.com/news/trophy-tracker-calder-candidates-2019-20/c-317051258 It's a 'trophy tracker', absolutely nothing has actually been awarded. Though it's looking like Makar is probably the favourite.
