Left side defense getting particularly crowded, but it's great to see some organizational depth. (Edler) (Del Zotto) Hughes Juolevi Hutton Pouliot Brisebois Rathbone Utunen This will be part of also having a good young defence in Utica apprenticing for the NHL. It gives a better future and great depth in the present.

rekker
He is a very nice skater. Can turn and adjust on a dime. Made lots of nice outlet passes. Pretty low key game and really wasnt that noticeable. Which is good for dman. His strength is definately in his effortless looking manuverabilty. 1

While the Canucks are not averse to drafting smaller players, it is notable that they all typically come with an element of grit and pushback. 1

Vinny in Vancouver
Here it is for the shift-by-shift (I didn't do the video) for those of us who missed the game. Glad to see the Canucks draft two skilled D-men (Hughes and Utunen) who despite their lack of size plays big on D! No idea how he's looked. I haven't had the time to watch any Liiga games yet this season. But I did poke around a bit tonight on Liiga.fi just looking at the stats. Utunen's team, Tappara, after 5 games (1W, 1T, 3L) is currently 13th place in a 15 team league, has a -4 goal differential, and has surrendered 17 goals against. In those 5 GP, Utunen is a +2 and has only one minus (EV goal against) in the 66+ minutes (total) TOI he's played so far this season. 1 2

He wasn't that bad defensively hovered around 0 in his plus minus over 600 NHL games The similarity I saw was his speed and size reminded me of Ballard BUT BETTER! Oots looks good.
