If the expansion draft happens in 2020 as it is expected to, then we have nothing to worry about. Two years doesn't make guys eligible. Two years or less means they are exempt. It is no different than what we went through last year with Vegas. So they'd all need 3 seasons unless Dahlen's time this season counts as a year. And that's assuming that the draft is in 2020. If it's 2021, then all our prospects would have enough experience.

Though, if the expansion draft happens in 2021 I'll be pissed off because it means we just had a lockout.

No vets in that 12. You are forgetting Tanner Kero, Cam Darcy and Carter Bancks (both signed by Utica) who will likely play big roles for the team. Not to mention you might likely see a few others players like Brendan Gaunce, Darren Archibald and maybe a few others NHL/AHL signings after training camp. Trent Cull and Ryan Johnson will not want an all rookie lineup, they will mix in veterans. They need guys like these two to help the young players develop and understand the culture of compete. Culture carriers is bled through the whole system, even in the AHL, and with the wealth of youth coming into the system, they will rely heavily on the veterans I mentioned above, as well as Jamie Sifers and Dylan Blujus on the backend.

And Utica will have to send half those youngsters elsewhere because, as you say, they will not be able to develop 12 young players as once. The signings put our NHL depth back up to the levels of when we were contending. Without the quality we had then. But having 16 NHL forwards and 16 AHL forwards isn't going to let the plethora of young players we have now get the minutes they need. Something like 6 of those young forwards are going to have to play ECHL, Europe or some other kind of elsewhere. And the NHL team is going to struggle to absorb more than 1 rookie forward when at least two or three will be ready to break in this year. I think we have overstocked the cupboard with the signings yesterday. I cannot say I dislike who they signed. Just that we seem to have too many forwards now. Hopefully JB can turn a couple players into draft picks (will Sutter fetch a first round pick? hmm).

Wasn't expecting him to return at all with the amount of forwards that'll be packed down there on Utica... definite head scratcher for me. Ever since Bancks and Hamilton came to the Comets training camp in 2014 they have been linked together like twins so I thought that when the Comets announced that Carter Bancks had signed a two year AHL contract but no mention of Wacey we were finally done with him. No such luck and just like his brother from another mother he is back for two more years. At least the penalty box official will have plenty of company again this year. 1

Yeah for a PK specialist he sure takes his fair share of bad penalties, especially those in the offensive zone. Having two vet spots tied up in Bancks and Hamilton just doesn't strike me as a great way to utilize those roles either, although it doesn't look like they'll have any vet issues for next season at this rate. Boucher, Archibald (probably), Bancks, Hamilton, Sifers. 1
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
LW Boucher Dahlen Motte Gadjovich Bancks MacMaster Bradley Arseneau C Kero Darcy Hamilton MacEwen Laplante RW Archibald Jasek Lind Carcone Palmu Utica just signed forward Brendan Bradley, that would make it 18 forwards in total, either on NHL/AHL deals with the Canucks/Comets. Its getting squishy, and we haven't even factored a few players that perhaps may be sent down from the Canucks such as Gaunce, Leipsic, or Goldobin (barring that they make it through waivers), Gaudette, maybe even Pettersson. Which increases the glut of forwards. I'd imagine Danny Moynihan, Alexis D'Aoust will likely not be given AHL contracts with wealth of forwards now. Canucks ops and RJ will have a large say as to which prospects get prominent minutes (especially the high draft picks) Going to be tough choosing who starts in the roster, who sits, and who starts in the ECHL. Id imagine Bradley, Arseneau, MacMaster (despite having a great start to his pro career last year), Laplante are first to go, but becomes a large debate who follows. LD McEneny Sautner Juolevi Brisebois Dirk RD Blujus Chatfield Sifers I wonder if Utica reups with Adam Comrie, he filled in admirably when the Comets went through a slew of injuries. however, based on the number of games, he is now considered a veteran. Also wonder after a strong year in the ECHL, whether Canucks or Comets give Aaron Irving a look, posted 48 points in 60 games, and was arguably the Kalamazoo's best Dman. And I'd imagine the Comets will sign another goalie to play in the ECHL until the time comes when their is an injury or call up. As much curiosity surrounds the main club in Vancouver, whatever they do has ramifications on how things look here in Utica as well. Noble 6
Motte - Kero - Boucher Dahlen - Gaudette - Archibald Jasek - MacEwan - Lind Gadjovich - Darcy - Palmu Carcone, McMaster, Hamilton Juolevi - McEneny Brisebois - Sifers Sautner - Chatfield Blujus, Dirk How does that look? I probably went too heavy on the kids as not that many AHL vets will likely sit out for that long.

I probably went too heavy on the kids as not that many AHL vets will likely sit out for that long. Blujus probably has a spot over Sifers on average, if I recall @UticaHockey's commentary from late last year correctly. I'd also assume that Bancks would be one of the first 13th forwards if not playing bottom six. Centre looks solid with Gaudette, but if he's not there it looks dicey at best. Motte and Kero can probably go 1-2 but even then, McEwen hasn't played C as a pro and one injury hurts big-time. If that line-up stays healthy for a bit though, I love it, especially from a Canucks prospects development perspective.

Blujus looked solid up until the playoffs where he was exposed by a highly skilled Marlies team. He really had a bad playoff series. I like Sifers but at 35 he is starting to slow down. He plays with a snarl and sticks up for his teammates which the Comets need.

I wanted Gaudette to start in the NHL as out 4th line center, but it looks unlikely now with Beagle and Sutter locking down the bottom-6. I think I remember someone from the organization (maybe Ryan Johnson) saying that they'd like to try MacEwan at center. If he doesn't work out, then we still have guys like Hamilton and Darcy to play those minutes.
