The problem I have with your AHL comparison is that we are talking about a position that doesn't necessarily rely on points. If one player proves to be more effective at standing up for the team than the other and, ultimately, affecting the game more in our favour, I don't really care what each player did in the AHL.

Besides, Schaller is a different player than Gaunce from what I can tell. Gaunce doesn't really provide the toughness Schaller provides nor would it be fair to expect that from Gaunce. I don't think they are necessarily even competing for the same spot. They might be, but then that's going to depend on the team we are playing against.

If this was 2012 I might agree with you. This team needs points.

I would have rather brought back Vanek.

He signed a 1 yr for 3 mil in detroit.   Instead we sign schaler for 2 mil for 2 years......

Canucks are going to need goals this year....

Taken  98 spots ahead of Rob Zepp.........

What were the scouts thinking.....

Just kidding.  Getting drafted in the NHL is a major accomplishment.....

Why is anyone even complaining about Schaller 1.9m x 2 is nothing anyways.... this is a moneyball move low risk, high reward. If he takes up a spot from a young guy and he isn't performing, waive or trade nothing lost..

Mainly because the young guy he takes it from might be lost to waivers or trade.

We have $10mil in capspace and people still whine about a 1.9mil 2 year deal. Unreal.

And last few years its been non-stop bitching about guys like Chaput, Magna, Skille ect in our bottom six. Having a really good bottom six opens up  top 6 spots for the young guys to slot in...

Are we gonna play Dahlen, Goldolbin, Pettersson on the fourth line? Gaunce has had how many chances given to him to improve, he has to earn it and Schaller will help the Canucks in having a top 10 bottom 6 in the NHL this year

Chaput, Megna and Skille didn't have potential lol.

Losing a guy with potential vs keeping a guy that won't play past next year but will be adequate for 1 year.

At this rate where Gaunce is concerned it's just “potential” slowly fading to never quite made it. Unless he steps up quick.
