After falling for roughly 300 feet, she crashed into a boulder and tumbled down another 300 feet. When she finally came to a stop, she was dazed, bruised, and bleeding. That’s when Nanook the husky showed up. Milling says that she thought the 7-year-old dog was a wolf until she saw that he had a collar and dog tag stating that he was a “Crow Pass Guide”. The injured Tennessee college student inferred that the dog was there to help her – and she was correct. The husky then stayed with her through the night until she continued her journey the next day. “He gave me the motivation to get up and walk another seven miles,” Milling told CBC. “If he didn’t show up, I probably wouldn’t have gotten back up and kept walking.” Nanook – also known as “Nookie” – came to Milling’s rescue again when they came across a freezing, fast-moving river. After watching Nookie cross the water, Milling gauged the situation and believed that she could follow suit. She tried to cross it once, only to fail. When she tried to cross a second time, she lost her footing and got pulled into the current. Despite changing into dry clothes, Milling was hypothermic. She crawled into her sleeping bag and tried to recover, but could not. Nanook, however, would not stop licking her face. Milling finally pressed the button on her SPOT GPS rescue device so that Alaskan State Troopers could find her. For hours, she remained curled up on the riverbank alongside Nanook. Finally, a rescue helicopter spotted her red sleeping bag and airlifted her to a medical facility. A state trooper then took Nanook back to the address that was listed on his dog tag. The dog’s owner, Scott Swift, listened to a recounting of the incredible events that had transpired, and the Anchorage man was stunned. “I was definitely pretty floored. It sends chills up my spine when I think about it. I certainly didn’t train him to do anything like this,” Swift told the Canadian news outlet. “It’s a pretty powerful feeling that this dog had this instinctual ability to want to go help people.” This is not the first time that Nanook has rescued a distressed hiker, either – after Milling’s story started being shared by news outlets, others came forward with news of the dog’s bravery. One traveler even said that the husky had rescued their child from the same river from which he rescued Milling. More surprisingly, Swift says that Nanook was never trained as rescue dog – he was adopted from a pet event in a Walmart parking lot. Swift has since created a Facebook page for people to share their own Nanook stories – and to praise him for his incredible rescue career. “Nookie was nothing short of a modern-day Lassie hero,” Alaska State Trooper Lt. It was around 5 p.m. on the Wednesday afternoon when several calls came in to police reporting a Canada Post truck driving erratically along Crowchild Trail south of Glenmore Trail. The truck struck about eight other vehicles before the driver stopped, got out and entered a convenience store. Young fell from the open window July 11. Her fall was broken by several tree branches and she landed on a soft patch of soil that was still damp from recent rain. I don't believe in miracles, but that is pretty miraculous.... Wahhaj was also wanted for child abduction of 3-year-old AG Wahhaj in Georgia. Morten was charged with harboring a fugitive and Wahhaj was booked on his no bond Georgia warrant for child abduction. Three women were also taken into custody for questing and released, police believe they are the mothers of the eleven children. After the verdict in favor of a California school groundskeeper with terminal cancer, Monsanto faces more than 5,000 similar lawsuits across the United States over claims it did not warn of the cancer risks of glyphosate-based weedkillers, including its Roundup brand. Monsanto, bought by Bayer this year for $63 billion, said that it would appeal against the jury’s verdict in California, which is the latest episode in a long-running debate over claims that exposure to Roundup can cause cancer. The case by plaintiff Dewayne Johnson, filed in 2016, was fast-tracked for trial due to the severity of his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph system that he alleges was caused by Roundup and Ranger Pro, another Monsanto glyphosate herbicide. “The jury’s verdict is at odds with the weight of scientific evidence, decades of real world experience and the conclusions of regulators around the world that all confirm glyphosate is safe and does not cause non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” Bayer said in a statement. If you don't think there is anything racist about this then either you are a drooling idiot and/or a racist. There is no double standard. Roseanne got a show despite her history of racist behavior. As did Sarah Jeong and as did the many athletes who have tweeted out racist or white supremacist comments in their past. Don't embarass your employer, dont get fired. It's shocking, but if you've ever driven in Italy you'll know how poor and dated the infrastructure is. A major issue is that the "white privilege" concept was developed to explain the differences between black and white people in America, and there is most certainly truth to it, as white people, generally, do have systematic advantages over black people in the USA. The analogy really doesn't apply to other non-white groups though. Asian people, are on average, more privileged than white people in the USA. They have far higher incomes and access to education.
