So I know a older fella from Yugoslavia, he told me some sort of agreement or a deal is coming to an end he fears war is likely over there. ??

@CBH1926

I haven’t heard anything from my relatives that still live over there.

My old man talks to them almost every day, and he usually reports back to me.

Besides “normal” tensions between Serbia and Kosovo and Serbs, Croats and Muslims bickering in Bosnia that is about it.

@RUPERTKBD mentioned Croats and Slovenes also.

They have been fighting over little plot of land that is 30sqkm in size for about 28 years.

Since both countries are in NATO, they just bark at each other, until big dog from Brussels tells them to shut the &^@# up.

This happened in Langley yesterday:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/deck-collapse-in-langley-injures-up-to-40-people-20-seriously-hurt/ar-BBW7dTH?li=AAggNb9

Multiple police, fire and ambulance crews converged on a residence in Langley early Friday evening after a rear deck collapsed, sending up to 40 people to hospital.

9-1-1 calls began flooding in to emergency responders at around 5:45 p.m. after the deck collapsed in the rear of the home at 26871 58th Ave. in the community of Aldergrove, where over 100 people had gathered for a wedding celebration.

RCMP tell Global News the injured range in age from a toddler under the age of two to the elderly.

Up to 20 of those patients are classified as having serious injuries, most involving lower extremity injuries such as broken legs.

Between 12 and 15 patients with minor injuries were driven to hospital by relatives. Those more seriously hurt were taken by ground ambulance, with one woman medivac'd to hospital by air ambulance.

At least one person is critically injured, possibly two.

No fatalities have been reported.

Judging from the photo, it appears that the ledgerboard let go, possibly because of rot, or poor construction.

It's important however, that people realize that just because you can fit 20 people on a deck, it doesn't mean that it's designed to hold the combined weight of that many people.

Hopefully, everyone will be okay.

I don't believe in Hell, (or any kind of afterlife) but I sometimes hope that I'm wrong, so there would be places to send POS's like this guy to be punished after his 25 years are up, here on earth:

A Newfoundland man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his five-year-old daughter in what the Crown said was a calculated plan to make his estranged wife suffer.

Justice Donald Burrage told Trent Butt he simply didn't accept that Butt's apology Tuesday for his daughter Quinn's murder was sincere.

Off the top of my head the cantilever on the outside of the deck looks to exceed code.  There doesn’t appear to be any connection (engineered straps) to connect the deck to that outside beam - as if the idea was self weight to keep it down.

the deck appears to have a vinyl membrane and the railing is top mounted. Over time water will find its way through the railing post fastener locations and rot out the framing below the deck membrane.

house appears to be approx 30-50 years old meaning the deck framing will be standard lumber and not pressure treated rot resistant lumber.  Having rebuilt a few old decks before (including my own) most likely the ledger at the house was handnailed and the deck joists hand nailed to that ledger without any joist hangers.

essentially an accident waiting to happen. And sadly it did with the worst possible outcome.

It looks like Canada has it's own "Jussie Smollett" incident:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/we-didnt-do-it-bermax-caffé-owners-insist-after-police-charge-them-with-staging-hate-crime/ar-BBWgpNm?li=AAggFp5

The Jewish family that owns a Winnipeg restaurant deny police allegations that they staged an anti-Semitic attack at the establishment last week.

Often in tears and struggling to speak, BerMax Caffé and Bistro owner Oxana Berent pleaded with members of her community not to judge her and her family after police announced they had charged them with public mischief.

"What is happening yesterday and today, it's completely broke our family, our business, everything. It just broke us," she told Ismaila Alfa, host of CBC Manitoba's afternoon radio show, Up to Speed.

Oxana Berent, 48, her husband Alexander Berent, 56, and her son Maxim Berent, 29, are all due in court in May.

Last Thursday, police responded to a report of an assault at the River Heights restaurant. Oxana said she was assaulted, dishes and appliances were smashed, and hateful graffiti, including a swastika, was spray painted on the walls. She insisted she would never stage something like that.

"We don't joke about swastikas on our walls," she said. "My grandmother's family, they died in the Holocaust. Just her and her little brother survived, the whole family. We don't joke about that."

At a news conference on Wednesday, Winnipeg police Chief Danny Smyth said he is disappointed by the alleged staging and fears it will promote cynicism. The incident took place the night before the start of Passover, a significant Jewish holiday.

"I am disappointed and frankly angry that this family has used hate to and racism in such a disingenuous way," Smyth said.

Maxim Berent said it would go against everything his family believes in to make up something like this.

"We didn't do it. We had no reason to do it," he said, speaking alongside his mother. "This is not good for our Jewish community, this is not good for us."

Oxana said she was alone in the restaurant after 9 p.m. after her son Maxim and her husband left to go to Home Depot. She was busy in the kitchen preparing for Passover and as she walked through a doorway leading from the kitchen to a corridor, somebody grabbed her and she fainted.

The next thing she remembers is waking up in an ambulance. She said she knows she was assaulted because she had marks on her skin, her clothes were ripped, and her hand hurt.

"I'm telling you right now, I'm very, very afraid to go home, because I don't know what's going to happen," she said.

Oxana said she spent 11 hours in a police interrogation room on Tuesday, and when she asked why they suspected the family lied about the incident, they simply said that pieces of their story didn't fit together.

"A lot of the things that they said, it doesn't make sense," said Maxim. "You know it's very puzzling. And [the police] have to do something. OK. They're being pushed by the city to do something."

Oxana and Maxim acknowledge that their restaurant has struggled and they had attempted to sell it. In order to pay off loans used to start the business, the family also put their home in the Rural Municipality of Petersfield up for sale. They deny this could have motivated them to stage the attack and vandalism, stating that insurance for the damage would not pay very much.

A crowd-funding campaign launched to support the family was shut down after news about the charges against the family broke. A vigil planned for Thursday night in response to the incident has been cancelled.

A bit surprised this hasn't been posted anywhere:

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/4-die-after-construction-crane-crushes-cars-in-seattle/ar-BBWmuP0?li=AAggNb9

Four people died and three were injured when a construction crane on the new Google Seattle campus collapsed Saturday, pinning six cars underneath.

One female and three males were dead by the time firefighters got to the scene, Fire Chief Harold Scoggins said. Two of the dead were ironworkers, not crane operators, as had been previously stated, and the two others were people who had been in cars, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said Saturday night.

A 25-year-old mother and her 4-month-old daughter were in a car that was smashed by the crane, but both managed to escape with only minor injuries, Durkan said. They and a 28-year-old man were taken to Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Fire spokesman Lance Garland said. A fourth person also was injured and treated at the scene.

Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Saturday night that the mother and baby had been discharged, while the man injured was in satisfactory condition.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office said it would not release names of people who died until Monday.

"It's a horrible day in Seattle when something like this happens. But it's a time when we come together because Seattle is a city that rallies around each other," Durkan said.

The crane collapsed near the intersection of Mercer Street and Fairview Avenue near Interstate 5 shortly before 3:30 p.m., Scoggins said.

With Amazon and other tech companies increasing their hiring in Seattle, the city has dozens of construction cranes building office towers and apartment buildings. As of January, there were about 60 construction cranes in Seattle, more than any other American city.

Officials do not yet know the cause of the collapse. Police and the state Department of Labor and Industries were investigating the incident, which Durkan said could take months.

Daren Konopaski, the business manager for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302, which represents heavy-equipment operators, told The Seattle Times he understood the crane was being dismantled when heavy winds moved through the area.

"We don't know, but that's what seems to have happened here," he said. "We are in the process of trying to get information."

Durkan confirmed that people were actively working on top of the building Saturday, but she didn't say whether the crane was being dismantled.

A line of showers moved over Seattle just about the time the crane fell, the National Weather Service in Seattle said. An observation station on nearby Lake Union showed winds kicked up with gusts of up to 23 mph at 3:28 p.m., just about the time officials said the crane fell.

"It was terrifying," witness Esther Nelson, a biotech researcher who was working in a building nearby, told the newspaper.

"The wind was blowing really strong," she said, and added that the crane appeared to break in half. "Half of it was flying down sideways on the building," she said. "The other half fell down on the street, crossing both lanes of traffic."

The office building the crane fell from was badly damaged, with several of its windows smashed.

A Google spokesperson said in a statement that the company was saddened to learn of the accident and that they were in communication with Vulcan, the real estate firm that is managing the site and working with authorities.

A crane collapsed in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue in 2006, damaging three neighboring buildings and killing a Microsoft attorney who was sitting in his living room. The state Department of Labor and Industries cited two companies for workplace-safety violations after an investigation that found a flawed design for the crane's base.

"Trudi and I join all Washingtonians in extending our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the four people who died in this afternoon's tragic accident," Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement. Inslee also said he hoped for a speedy and full recovery for those injured, thanked first responders and urged people to stay clear of the accident scene.

Assistant Police Chief of Patrol Operations Eric Greening said all lanes may be closed until Sunday night.

Church of Scientology cruise ship quarantined in St. Lucia due to measles case

Hey, team Tom Cruise is stuck on a cruise! Seems fitting.

Can't they just believe that they are healthy and create their own reality where they don't need vaccinations?
