Madden NFL, after a decade’s absence from PC gaming, will return to Windows PC this fall with Madden NFL 19, Electronic Arts’ chief executive, Andrew Wilson, announced today at EA’s keynote kicking of E3.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the Madden franchise, which originally published as John Madden Football for a variety of personal computers on June 1, 1988. The last Madden NFL to publish for PC was Madden NFL 08 in 2007.

EA Sports’ decision to abandon the platform in early 2008 was met with the full-throated indignation of the PC gaming community, and began a steep decline in sports video gaming on that platform. From 2009 to present day, EA Sports’ only PC-published series was the FIFA soccer series. The only other licensed sports video games on PC in that era were 2K Sports’ NBA 2K and MLB 2K series, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer, and Codemasters’ F1 series.

Very, very excited about this coming to PC finally.  Haven't bought any sports title for a couple of years but this should be a lot of fun.

Sweet, hopefully there are mods.  Hockey would be sweet as well if they could add the Olympics and World Jr's, I believe there are Olympics/FIBA mods for NBA2k.  However, I don't think my current PC will handle any new games without getting a new video card put in.

Madden 19 Release Date, Franchise Mode, PC Specs, Cover Star, Early Access - Everything we Know

Here's all the key info you need on Madden 19, including all the details we've uncovered on Ultimate Team, Franchise mode, and most important of all, the Madden 19 release date.

85Guide by Hirun Cryer, Hirun Cryer, 07/27/2018.

Madden 19 will be bringing the premier football sim back to consoles and PC platforms near the beginning of August, so you haven't got long to wait at all before you can get your hands on it. In this Madden 19 everything we know guide, we'll be detailing all the key facts you need to know about the game so far, including the Madden 19 release date, how to get access to the game early with the Madden 19 Hall of Fame edition, all the changes EA has made to the Madden 19 Franchise mode, as well as a look at the two Madden 19 cover star players.

As always, Ultimate Team will be a massive part of Madden 19, and there's already information out there about MUT 19 and all the changes EA is planning to make to the mode. For all this and more, head over to our complete Madden 19 Ultimate Team guide.

Madden 19 Release Date

EA revealed that Madden 19 will release on August 10 around the world, so you've got little over a month to wait until it's finally here. However if you're willing to pay up for the more expensive Hall of Fame edition (with Terrell Owens on the cover), then you'll be able to start playing from August 7, and few days earlier.

608x-1

Madden 19 is always available early through the EA Access scheme, but for Xbox players only. Although EA hasn't announced any additional details about this yet, such as when it'll be available, we'll update this section with further information as soon as it's revealed.

Madden 19 Cover Star

As we mentioned previously, the Madden 19 Hall of Fame edition features Terrell Owens on the cover. This edition is going to set you back $79.99 as we stated above, but it'll grant you various bonuses when Madden 19 launches, including the ability to play it ahead of the final release, on August 7.

608x-1

The Madden 19 Hall of Fame box cover can be seen just above, featuring Owens. However this is purely for the 20th Anniversary Edition, the upgraded edition of the base game that'll let you play early.

Later on in July, it was revealed that Antonio Brown will be gracing the cover of the standard edition of Madden 19 in August. Check out the full cover of the Madden 19 standard edition just below, featuring the 99 overall-rated Brown.

Madden 19 Player Ratings

Ahead of the final release of Madden 19, EA has teased the "99 Club". As it says on the tin, this is the elite group of players in the game that have a 99 overall rating. You can see the full list of players just below:

  • Tom Brady
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Rob Gronkowski
  • Von Miller
  • Luke Kuechly
  • Antonio Brown
  • Aaron Donald

EA has since released some rookie ratings for newcomers to the game, drafted from the 2018 NFL Draft. For a full guide to the very best rookie players that were drafted only this year, head over to our complete Madden 19 rookie player ratings guide.

The full slate of player ratings for Madden 19 have now been revealed by EA. While we'll be updating this page with links to full guides for every team very shortly, for now you can check out the best Madden 19 players, featuring ten of the top players from around the league.

608x-1

We should note that the Madden 19 beta recently conluded, and there was a complete roster for every team present in the beta. However if you think these player ratings will reflect the final version of the game, you'd be mistaken. In past Madden betas, the player ratings have been drastically different to the ones in the final version of the game that released afterwards. We'll be reporting on additional player ratings as soon as they're revealed, but they're not accurate right now.

Madden 19 PC Specs

EA revealed last month in June that Madden 19 would be coming to the PC. You can see the full list of minumum recommended PC specs for the game just below:

  • OS: Windows 7 or newer
  • GPU: GTX660 or equivalent passmark
  • CPU: i3-4350 or equivalent passmark
  • Memory: 8GB or RAM
  • HDD Space 40GB

All in all, these PC specs for Madden 19 aren't too demanding. It's a welcome bonus that not only is Madden making a return to the PC with Madden 19, but plenty of players should be able to get it to run smoothly on their PCs.

Madden 19 E3 2018 Details

At the EA Play event as part of E3 2018 on June 9, EA revealed that Madden 19 wouldn't feature the "run-pass option", or RPO. This is a rather unique play in which the QB can hand the ball off to the running back, or throw it downfield to a receiver.

There'll also be brand new player statistics added in to Madden 19 on the offensive side of the ball. These include 'receiver route running', which governs how easily a receiver can get open versus coverage, as well as 'break sack' for the QB, which does what it says on the tin.

Which Platforms is Madden 19 Coming to?

Madden 19 is going to be coming to the PS4, PC, and Xbox One later this year in August. There's no surprise that last gen consoles aren't present on the release list, but this is the first time that a modern Madden game will be coming to the PC.

According to EA, Madden 19 will deliver "more game-changing control to players than ever before". This is in part due to new Real Play Motion Technology, which is said to provide a new higher degree of responsiveness and player personality.EA is also promising "more authentic ways to build an NFL roster" and "the ability to train and develop players".

"We’ve worked directly with community members on Madden NFL 19 to make a deeper, more immersive football game that gives players what they want - more choice, more control, and key enhancements to fan-favorite modes," say Carlos Guerrero, Sr. Producer on Madden NFL 19. "Real Player Motion technology combined with all new franchise-building tools like Positional Archetypes and the return of Custom Draft Classes are features that football fans will find fun and engaging. Madden NFL 19 steps up the authentic football experience in so many ways."

Madden 19 New Features

We don't yet know the full slate of new details set to be featured when Madden 19 releases in August, but EA has already revealed new details about the football sim. We've got a roundup of all the new features for the game just below, which we'll be expanding upon as EA releases new information.

  • Custom Drafts in Franchise Mode - We'll expand upon this further down, but you can now create, share, and customize your own drafts in Franchise Mode.
  • Zone Coverage AI - If you're one of the Madden players that thinks zone coverage in the game has been lacking for the past few years, then we've got good news. EA has revealed that player AI will be getting some form of upgrade when playing zone coverage on defense.
  • 'One Cut' - A bit like the 'true step' feature that was introduced in Madden a few years back, this new feature is set to give players a more realistic step, letting them cut up and dart around the field.
  • 'Hit the Home' - This new feature sounds like it'll let player AI find gaps in the defense more easily, and run through holes.
  • 'Push the Pile' - A new feature that looks set to be geared towards contact at the line of scrimmage, this should help you gain critical yards in tight situations.

Madden 19 Franchise Mode

Franchise mode is returning to Madden 19, and will allow players to choose the offensive and defensive schemes that fit their style, in single-player or multiplayer seasons. These schemes, EA states, are linked to a new progression system based on authentic positional archetypes, letting you try to build for the future or achieve success quickly.

608x-1

In July, we got the chance to go hands-on with Madden 19's Franchise Mode. Our big boss Kat Bailey reckons XP rewards have finally been fixed for players, but Owner Mode is unfortunately still basically broken. For all our thoughts on the return of the mode, head over to our Madden 19 Franchise Mode impressions.
