Shekky
Montreal Canadiens defenceman Shea Weber will miss the start of the 2018-19 season after undergoing knee surgery. The Canadiens announced Thursday Weber had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a meniscal tear in his right knee on June 19 and will need five-to-six months to recover. A five-month recovery would allow Weber to return to the Canadiens lineup in December. Weber was shut down in February of last season after undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a tear in a tendon in his left foot. He had not played since Dec. 16 when he was shut down at that time. He missed one game, on Nov. 9, last season due to a knee injury. Weber, who will turn 33 next month, scored six goals and 16 points in 26 games last season while averaging 25:21 of ice time. His total of 26 games is the lowest of his career for a season. "With Shea currently rehabilitating from his March 13, 2018 left foot surgery (with recovery scheduled to take six months), it was planned by Shea and the Canadiens' medical staff to have a consultation with the orthopedic knee surgeon," the team's head physician, Dr. David Mulder, said in a release. "This appointment was delayed due to the foot surgery. Following consultation with both Dr. Robert LaPrade and Dr. Robert Anderson, the orthopedic foot surgeon, it was agreed that a knee arthroscopy was needed. This procedure was performed on June 19 by Dr. LaPrade at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. "During the procedure, it was determined that the damage to his knee was more serious than previously anticipated and the situation required a more comprehensive procedure to repair a meniscal tear. It is important to mention that this procedure could not have been performed earlier due to his recovery to his previous foot surgery. As such, we expect a recovery period from this latest knee surgery to be five to six months, which will keep him out of action until mid-December 2018," The team said the announcement of Weber's surgery was delayed until after the draft and free agency period "due to the complexity of the situation from a medical standpoint, and to avoid any distractions." "We were very disappointed to learn that this knee injury will extend Shea's recovery period. Unfortunately, this is out of our control and we have to fully trust the medical group in these situations. We are confident that his recovery will go as scheduled and that Shea will return to action as soon as possible," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin added. Weber, acquired two years ago from the Nashville Predators for P.K. Subban, has 23 goals and 58 points in 104 games since joining the Canadiens. He is signed through the 2025-26 season, when he will be 40, at a cap hit of $7.857 million. https://www.tsn.ca/habs-weber-has-knee-surgery-out-until-at-least-december-1.1131722 This has gotta hurt the Canadiens with Weber out for nearly half of next season I wonder if MB tries to sign a defenceman to fill the gaping hole left on the blue line now. I dislike Montreal nearly as much as Calgary so I feel bad for Weber but not Montreal lol.

PhillipBlunt
Damn. I've always liked Weber and how he played (outside of the bogus headsmash on Zetterberg). I can't see him getting anywhere close to contending for a Cup with Montreal, and the knee surgery outcome has to be a downer for him. Then again, this guy did sign a 1200 year contract with Nashville right before the last lockout and never got any clauses signed........but all the same. Get better, Shea. TheRick
So Montreal traded a classy player in PK, who did nothing but donated to Children's Hospitals in Montreal, for an injury prone aging Dman, and now Montreal is considering signing a wife beating Dman!? Stay classy Montreal!

HerrDrFunk
Meanwhile, Bergevin sits in his office secure that he'll have a job until he dies because he knows where the Molson's sex-muder dungeon is.
Spitfire_Spiky
Montreal is in big trouble on the back end. They really could use a young up and coming defender like Sergachev right about now....

Stay classy Montreal! Yet his teammates did not name him for the King Clancy award (leadership and humanitarian contribution) that year. Fwiw Weber and Rinne created a pediatric cancer fund and had a suite at Bridgestone arena to host sick children and their families.
qwijibo
Bergevin will make it all better by trading Pacioretty for a handful of magic beans. What a disaster of a GM

Something fishy about this. A scope procedure to repair a torn meniscus does not take 5 to 6 months.

Stay classy Montreal! the issue was that PK donated the money to a hospital that the Habs weren't associated with. For example would be somebody on the Canucks donated money to St Pauls or Lions gate but the canucks hospital is Childrens

Well if it is just a simple clean up recovery is a few weeks. They just grind a little flap down smooth. If there was a large tear and they decided to try to suture it down that would require a much longer recovery. I think micro fracture surgeries have somewhat fallen out of favour but had their been extensive cartilaginous damage they may have opted for that which again has a very long recovery. Good luck Shea, class act, great player. Not his fault he is playing for one of the worst GMs in the league (I can't give the crown to anyone but Chia though).
