Canucks Season Predictions:

1). Horvat, Baertchi, Boeser and Pettersson all scored 20 goals or more

2). Virtanen, Leipsic and Goldobin: 2/3 players will use this season to prove that they belong in the NHL the rest of their career, and 1/3 will flop out.

3). Juolevi gets called up mid-season when our usual avalanche of injuries happen to our back-end. He will remain with the team and not get sent back down for the rest of the year. He also replaces Edler on the 1st PP unit.

4). Ben Hutton and Troy Stecher both will have  solid season and will remain with the Canucks as part of the plan going forward.

5). Del Zotto continues to play physical and gets traded at the deadline for an extra 3rd round pick.

6). Gudbranson plays more physical and stablish himself as a hard punishing D-man for our team.

7). Edler gets resigned at 3 million x 2 years cap hit (CDC crying out rages the moment this signing is announce in February)

8). Tanev only plays 50 games.

9). Pouliot gets waived mid-season to make room for Juolevi.

10). Markstrom improves statistically, but overall still loses a lot more games than he wins. Nilsson will be the tank commander to help us finish bottom of the league.

11). Canucks will finish bottom 3 in the league and lose atleast 1 position after draft lottery.

12). Utica dominates the AHL and the young kids all play well with the farm team; Juniors/College/overseas prospects also have good seasons under their belt.

Okay, I have a little time, so here's some Canucks fantasy that I hope turns into reality:  Canucks will miss the playoffs as the last seed in the West by 2 points, powered by EP getting 65 points as a rookie after a slow start, Brock getting 70 points (40 goals) as his winger (Virtanen plays the left side ... it is fantasy!), and Bo being named the captain before the season and leading from the front with a 70 point season, with the increase in points mainly coming as a member of the first power play unit.  All of these point totals are inflated due to OJ making the team and being Lumme 2.0 (much improved) with 35 points, and the Canucks swinging a trade with Ottawa for EK before the season, sending them Goldy, Hutton, Erik G, Lind, and a 2020 first round pick and 2019 6th round pick for EK (who promptly signs a new contract which doesn't cripple us going forward, just happy to be out of Ottawa) and Ryan (who plays like it's 2010 again, just happy to be out of Ottawa, and ends up on Bo's line along with Sven).  EK plays like a man possessed, racking up 80 points, and turning his partner Edler into a true 1st pairing d-man by osmosis, and our powerplay becomes a top 5 force in the NHL, improving further at the end of the season when Hughes joins the team.  Sutter (as RW), Gaudette and Leipsic form a pesky and dangerous line which rotates with Roussel, Beagle and Eriksson as the checking/counterpunch 3rd and 4th lines. Unfortunately, while our forwards and defenders do fine all season, our goaltending lets us down until the last two months of the season due to injuries and brainfarts, allowing Demko to get his chance and almost lifting the Canucks into the playoffs with his stellar play.  After the season, we win the lottery, draft Hughes, and finally the Canucks have a complete team!

By Xmas 2018...

Canucks are still in the fight to make play-offs!

...But in the New Year loose 11 in a row :(

Canucks are sellers at trade deadline.

1.Colorado decimated by injury; obtain Baertschi and Ben Hutton, whom show great first 1/2 season growth;  but are traded to Avalanche, along with goalie asset Thiessen and a conditional 3rd, for the first round pick owed to Colorado by Montreal, plus added contract dumps.

2. Eriksson, Sutter, Guddy, are traded to Montreal for scraps but receive in return one of their 2 First rounder 2019 picks (obtained from Karlsson trade.) Unbelievable...Montreal is still in the play-0ff hunt!

3.Tanev and a current goalie Marky are traded to Islanders, whom are also scratching their way into playoffs. Canucks get D-man Dobson!

The funny thing after all trades made, Canucks youth combine for what will be known as "The Famous Rookie Run of 2019." -22 wins in a row to close out the season and grab the final play-off spot by one point!

The Canucks go on all the way to the Stanley Cup, but loose in game seven by a single but very controversial goal :(

Canuck win 1st overall 2019 Draft pick

Canucks do not draft Jack Hughes. (Leave something for the imagination)

Tryamkin returns in 2020, and is an offensive and defensive force along side Q.Hughes (AKA "The Q")

Canucks win Stanley cup in 2022, 2023 & 2025.

I hope you enjoy the journey! ;)

Overall:

1. The Canucks are not as bad as they look in preseason, but still pretty bad. The finish in 22nd overall place, well out of the playoffs. 80 pts.

2. Canucks are out of serious playoff contention before the deadline but still manage to avoid doing much at the deadline.

Individual Forwards:

Horvat was good last year but is pretty close to his peak. He should have another good year, picking up about 50 pts. Low 20s in goals.

Boeser has a solid year, but not as good as a lot of people are expecting. Between 25 and 30 goals and 55 - 60 pts.

Pettersson is the real deal. Between 25 and 30 goals and 55 - 60pts. (Similar to Boeser.) Calder contender but does not win.

The UFA additions (Schaller, Beagle, Roussel) do very little offensively. None of them reaches 20 pts. Lots of talk about intangibles and the value of winning experience. Canucks hire Washington Capitals dressing room attendant at inflated salary because of his "Stanley Cup experience".

Benning trade acquisitions (Granlund, Leipsic, Motte, Goldobin) continue to tantalize but do not develop a complete NHL-level game. They play on the Canucks but are not good enough to play on a good NHL team. Goldy scores at a decent rate but continues to be inconsistent defensively.

Eriksson is better than last year but still not what was hoped for. Gets about 35 pts.

Virtanen has less upside that most of CDC thinks. But he is a good 4th liner with speed and physical play and gets about 25 pts.

Defense:

Similar to last year except Guddy is healthier (but still a 3rd pairing D) and Hutton has a modest bounceback, playing on the second pairing.

Goaltending:

Markstrom has a save percentage of about 0.915, close to the league average for starting goalies. As an average netminder he is ahead of the forwards and the D, who are well below average overall. Nilsson is a slightly below-average backup. The good news is that there is no goalie controversy.

Utica: A good team but not a dominant team. Make the playoffs, maybe get past the first round. But, like Cole Cassels and many players before him, young players from the CHL find the transition from major junior to the AHL tougher than they expect.

What I would like to see: Aquilini admits that Linden was on the right track. Brings back Linden. Linden fires Benning and Weisbrod. and promotes Judd Brackett and Ryan Johnson.

Brock is on pace for 50 but falls short at 47

Bo hits 75pts (26goals)

Elias has 77 pts and leads the Canucks in points and gets 34 goals, But doesn't hit his stride till Nov after he has a 4 point night.

Dahlen gets 40 points

Joulevi is solid and at times shows some flash and glimpse's of what he will become

Canucks finish ahead of Oilers and Flames

They surprise everyone and squeak into the final play-off spot.

Botchford gets fired for foul language!

Leipsic and Bear have 20 goal campaigns.

The NHL loses a few games due to once in a lifetime storms.

Jake starts the season the way the last year finished and gets 25 goals.

Virtanen finally gets serious about his career and has a monster year

Canucks management is forced to award Bo the C half ways through the year, because it is just too embarrassing for them not to anymore,  getting so much grief from fans with how well he is leading the team.

Boeser cracks 45 goals.

Pettersson is everything we could have dreamed, but doesn't win the Calder as the eastern sports media has already made their minds up and awarded it to Dahlin by Christmas.

Eriksson goes from the first line, to the second, to the third, until mercifully he gets injured and is out for the rest of the season, making room for a player like Gadjovich. Addition by subtraction.

Surprisingly, to most, Canucks are in a playoff position at the TD. JB is still able to dump underperformers Gagner, Granlund, for picks.

With our late surge to the season, we make the playoffs, and Hughes, after setting records for Michigan, is added to the mix for the playoffs.

Which proves to be the final piece to the puzzle, Canucks go all the way. We win the Stanley #@%&#@* Cup!

Side note: Eriksson is finally healthy for the last few games of the Final, has some kind of epiphany, charged up from all the ridicule, he scores the winning goal to end the series.

I trust in Oracle Laura. She predicted last December on 650 that either last season or this season we win.  Hey I admit it, my blind sick obsession with this team winning something is making me reach for anything right now. Go to the 5 min. mark:

And a final prediction, of which I was spot on last year (with seven)......Five posters will end up with a prediction of "Reserved"

Go Canucks Go!!!

-Canucks miss the playoffs, finish last place

-Pettersson keeps the games worth watching (20G, 35A)

-Horvat takes over leadership of the team

-Boeser has a slow start, but has a hot second half of the season (25G, 20A)

-DiPietro passes Demko on depth chart as our most promising goaltender

-Canuck fans will have a hard time realizing that this D is terrible, our G is well below average, and we cant score at F. Future maybe not as bright as we think.

-Despite good odds, we miss out at the draft lottery and drop to 3rd pick

-Tank GDT returns by Xmas

-TDL brings us at most 1 or 2  5th,6th round picks.

-Pittsburgh vs Sharks for the cup - Sharks win first cup.

I think we will finally understand what impact the Sedin's have had on our franchise, taking on top end defensemen, on a nightly basis.

This will become more evident, as now Horvat, Boeser, and Baertschi (?), will have to face them on a nightly basis, this will show our top end depth

And how we compete this year...……….Our team will be a older veteran team, and our prospects younger and still developing...……..we will need patience!

If anything, I have come to understand, how difficult it is for prospects to break into the NHL and make an impact, and how our  prospects, as highly ranked as they are,

will have to endure their growing pains too! This will be a year of reality, and will be a year of realizing our veterans are not good enough and our prospects are not ready.

This will be a year of team growth, in the fact that it will be a year of understanding, of evaluation, and of patience!

We will again be a bottom 5 team, but it will also be a year moves us forward, and hardens our prospects to the pro experience, either in the NHL or the AHL.

We are still far away, but not far off!

Final Standings 2018 -2019...…….Vancouver 64 Pts...………...30th OA...……….(Ottawa 31st 58 Pts)

Here goes:

 - Pettersson wins calder

 - Canucks finish last and finally win the draft lottery, reuniting the Hughes brothers and signing them both here in Vancouver

 - Brock scores 35-40 goals and makes Benning look bad for not signing him to a contract this summer, the new contract costs more than it should have

 - Horvat named Captain at some point this year or right after the season ends

 - Gaudette and Joulevi are full time players after the trade deadline and some players are moved out

 - Demko plays some games this year, looks good and leads the Comets to the finals

 - one of this summer free agent signings is traded, not a good look around the league but with one of Jake, Goldy, Motte or Leipsic taking their spot is inevitable

 - Some of the vets are traded at or before the trade deadline, Sutter, Tanev, Del Zotto, or maybe Gudbranson won’t finish the year in Vancouver

 - Virtanen scores 15 and finally puts it together looking like the power forward we all thought he could be

 - Edler finally waves his no trade and Benning surprises us with the return

 - Benning picks up 2 2-3 round draft picks and another couple solid prospects at the trade deadline

Around the league/AHL

- San Jose wins the cup  beating Tampa

- Mcdavid wins art ross and MVP

- Ovechkin wins rocket Richard

Player thoughts:

- Pettersson has 65 points but doesn't win Calder.

- Bo and Boeser start slow in October and November. Take off from December on. Both post 60+ point totals.

- Our D, being the same 8 as last year, suck miserably. This forces some trades from JB. Hoping 2/8 get traded for decent assets.

- Virtanen starts hot but cools off scoring a still good 40ish points.

- The vet forwards, new and old, do something useful this year. Looking at you Loui.

- Goldobin sticks full time scoring 18 goals on the 2nd line.

- OJ doesn't play a single NHL game this year. Next year makes team.

- Gaudette plays last month+ after deadline. Plays in a callup role till then.

Team thoughts:

- Finish 2nd to last or dead last in league. I just don't see any improvement here. All focus from other teams will be on Boeser, Horvat and Pettersson with Sedins gone, making it tough for them.

- WIN THE F'ING LOTTERY (serious hope here). Draft Hughes. Get another 1st rounder somewhere.

- Team changes logo again next year.

League Thoughts:

- Laine wins Rocket Richard

- McJesus wins Hart and Art Ross

- McKinnon wins Lady Byng

- Hedman wins Norris

- Jones wins Vezina

- Crosby wins Ted Lindsay

- Rick Tocchet wins Jack Adams (Coyotes make the playoffs)

-Erik Karlsson wins Conn Smythe (assuming he plays how he used to)

- Predators win Presidents

- Sharks win Campbell

- Lightning win Wales

- Sharks win Stanley Cup. Jumbo Joe and Burns shave their beards on ice while celebrating with the cup then ride horses nude into an artificial sunset while ESPN photographs the event.

Short and sweet, generally because I don't like predicting... I think the Canucks will get off to a horrendous start to the season..Starting with a very long road trip in some very tough barns ..(If Boeser doesn't light it up..who's going to score?)...I see Juolevi and Gaudette back on the team probably a third of the way through the season ...Again,the second half of the season is when we will see rapid improvement.

Canucks will be a bottom 5 team, and they will also be in the company of a few other Canadian teams...

I suck at this every year but no sense stopping now. The boys are going to struggle through the first half of the year as a Sedin sized hole in the lineup just can't be filled. 21 points in the first 41 games. Back half of the season sees them finally realize that nobody can save them but themselves. 40 points in the last 41 games for 62 points total and neck and neck with the Sens for bottom of the league. 2nd overall pick after the lottery because that's as high as we will ever draft.
