How did a dark copper ( Casino/Hotel Parq Vancouver ) ever find its way into our skyline, what an eye sore!

I'm sure the new entertainment district will bury the casino from a False Creek Shore view when completed.

I live near it, at some points in the day (sunrise usually) it looks quite good, other times not so much. Once its buried in with other buildings it will be fine.

British Columbia doesn't have a building code or engineers who can design buildings?   Lots of places in the world get big earthquakes and have built on crap ground using any number of code approved methods.

I am pretty sure they won't be able to build anything on this area without meeting very strict codes that will include taking into account the earthquake you are talking about.

I guess he missed the giant holes, footings, pilings and other foundation work they did putting in the new stuff.

BTW its called false creek because it looks like a creek when you sail in to Vancouver and hit a dead end around Chinatown.

oh come on Eeyore.

BC's corrupt real estate industry has become famous across the globe as a dirty  money laundering mecca.

Yup, great VanCity is awesome...  at least it was in the pre expo  early 1980's.

It can't be a world class city if the city has no families, children or mixed socio eco blend of citizens.....

Gastown was surveyed in 1869  so pretty sure Vancouver was kind of a quiet boring town in 1886.  Pretty much hasn't changed as it is still quiet and boring.

you gotta get out of Surry more.

You wanted a change in government, so get on the phone and tell Horgan to build more apartments. We need far more supply than we have, thats the only thing that will get prices down.

Agreed. Densification of Point Grey with new apartments throughout that area would be a great start......

Yea right. Gregor works for big real estate, you think he's really going to approve rezoning of those areas?

Supposed to be the best in the world, supposed to be but ….. who checks? Who in the city is qualified to check building plans? No one, the certification is supplied by the builder. And what they expect here will be unprecedented mostly because we don't experience the middle shakers to see how the codes are standing up. This one is estimated to be eight times stronger as San Frans of 1989, that was 6.9, Richter number double each one, ie; 7 is double 6, so you can see what is expected in Vancouver would be, 6.9 - 7.9 = x2, 7.9 - 8.9 = x2, 8.9 - 9.8 = x2 or close enough it doesn't matter, 2x2x2= 8 times stronger.

Don't know if any structure has survived that level, I would not live in the air surrounded by concrete. I do live on top of a hill a mile from the water in a family home on the ground.

Be prepared as you can be, secure a 5 gallon jug(s) of water, some chlorine bleach and water purifying pills, first aid kits, good ones, an first aid/anatomy book, camping stuff, canned food and can opener, old style radio(s), drugs - painkillers, fever, burns, stuff like that, they say enough to last 3 days but expect longer and having to supply others.  No matter what you have it will not be enough. No help while the after shocks, they will be massive as well. It's coming, 10,000 shakers since May, Vancouver Island moving closer since May indicate pressure pushing the plate, like a bent branch, then it springs back when it slips, believe it or not we were taught about VI "growing" as an indicator of the big one coming.

Just so we're clear, Vancouver Island is moving farther away, not closer.  That can still contribute to an earthquake.

or how about every major street? e.g., what they are doing on Cambie is great, replacing old single family homes with 4 storey apartments. We need to see these lining every major street, and soon. We simply need  a lot more supply, and the province can facilitate that. It requires working with developers tho.... so I'm not getting my hopes up.

100 % .   Densification around major public transit lines is the answer. 4-6 storey buildings with apartments ranging from 1 - 3 bedrooms.

The concept of a single family home in Vancouver should not be an option for redevelopment.  Apartments and more apartments.  More supply is the answer.

Also extending transit  to langley or abbotsford is a no brainer as well.   Get high speed transit from these cities to the sky train.

yup. We aren't even close to anything like densification in other cities. We could have a resident-only set aside as well for these, it might not stand up in court if someone actually fought it but by the time that worked its way through the system the units would be built and occupied anyway so it wouldn't matter.

So where is the major transit line in point grey you want to densify around? There is none so you just contradicted yourself.

You don't make sense.

Lots of great transit routes run through Pt Grey......   perfect for expanded density multi family.

You said major transit lines. That is the 99 and pretty much nothing else. And that line is always full.
