CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Fair to say the Olympics needs Hockey more than Hockey needs the Olympics?
Nuxfanabroad
Just hope the world(& sheets of ice) make it that far. Dress chimpanzees in colours of all nations(option #5..I don't giva' hoot!). Oh, & them 'IOC elites' I'd like to give an Oly-sized boot in the a*se with frozen mukluk. Get a REAL job, ya ninnies!
cdubuya
Orgs like the IOC and FIFA are money hungry and corrupt. If they want to profit off of NHL talent they should share the reward with the NHL owners, else they can use amateur talent. Afterall, the Olympics are supposed to be for amateur athletes anyway. Baer.
I don't understand having no hockey at all. If it really comes down to it, give some minor leaguers the chance at Olympic gold. I don't see why any change is needed. Go with same player pool as 2018.
The Brahma Bull
If I have to see linden vey and willie d on another olympic team, i'ma lose it.
Ghostsof1915
How about just don't have a world juniors during Olympic years and have an Olympic hockey with Junior players? Or does the IIHF lose money not having tourney during Christmas?

Agreed 100% that IOC &FIFA are thoroughly corrupted. But would add that if you share with with NHL owners then you share with players too. They're risking their careers by going there for what exactly - the nation's gratitude?

PunjabiCanucks
IIHF should compensate the NHL. You borrow players and don't pay em jack. They are at risk of injury and cost the organizations.

Maybe originally, but almost every sport has a pro tour now, and has for a long time. I bet there are more professionals than amateurs at the Olympics.. Besides, the Stanley Cup was originally for the top amateur team as well. Times have changed.
24K PureCool
Let's face it, these Olympic games are in Beijing, China where the NHL is desperate to expand into. There is absolutely no way league owners are going to give up a chance to heavily expose their players and game to China. They are going. No if or buts about it. Solinar
The owners are the ones at risk in all of this of losing their star talent as they gear into the final month and a half of a playoff race. Look what happened when Tavares broke his leg and the Islanders missed the playoffs because of it. Why would you ever do that for nothing knowing the other guys (IOC) are making a killing off of it? Split the profits and go from there. At least make it worth the business owners time. Called compromise.
Gurn
The owners get massive, worldwide publicity when they send/allow NHL players to go to the Olympics, so they aren't doing it for nothing. Increased merchandise sales are practically guaranteed.

Check out the ratings of any NHL hockey game including cup finals and compare it to the Winter Olympics. And when did the NHL play an actual NHL game over there?
