The Boston Bruins granted goaltender Tuukka Rask a leave of absence relating to a personal matter on Friday.

“It’s not health related," Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said. "It’s important to respect his privacy and allow him to deal with it for the next few days.”

The 31-year-old has a 4-4 record this season with a 3.05 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.

He entered Thursday's loss against the Vancouver Canucks in relief of Jaroslav Halak in the second period and allowed three goals on 14 shots.

“I was just trying to keep it under 10 [goals allowed] -- that’s what I was worried about," Rask said after the 8-5 loss. "But yeah, you know, like I said, a loss is a loss, it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day. It was kind of a crazy game both ways. A lot of goals scored and at the end it looked like everyone was napping in the crowd. It was just one of those games where there wasn’t a whole lot of action on either end -- low shots and all of a sudden it’s 5-3, 8-5 whatever.

"Yeah, weird game. But that’s entertainment and we’re just providing it.”

Wow, the Canucks must have really broken him last night.::D

But all joking aside, whatever he is going through personally I wish him the best of luck!

taking a pro active approach (counselling) to his anger issues since the cost goalie sticks has gone up dramatically.

Hopefully whatever it is works out. Mental, family whatever. If it's enough he needs to leave the team it must be pretty serious.

I wonder if whatever it is was already on his mind and that's why Halak started the game.

That was my thought as well.

Halak does have more games played. I was talking to my old man about it during the game. Seems like every time I see the Bruins play it was with Halak in net. Halak does have superior numbers, this may be something that has been on Rask's mind all season so far.

The goal light has filed a restraining order against him.

Halak got a sunburn on his neck from the goal light going off behind him.

I sincerely hope that for whatever the reason he needs this personal leave of absence for that he gets takes the time AND gets help if he needs it. Everyone has problems and stress in life and when you're a professional athlete that is amplified a million times over. We don't need to look far to see our very own local sports heroes battling their demons.

Wishing all the best to Tuuka Rask.

Stay classy CDC.
