Goldy sort of seems like more of the same problem they already have.

Granted but it's not like they're going to get a 'Boeser' for an expiring Ferland.

I'd seriously consider something like:

Goldy, Granlund + Gadjovich?

Caphit less than $2mil, can play up and down the lineup and would most likely complete our top line and give the unspoken intangible dimension we are lacking.

Plus his heritage ties in nicely with the 1st nations whale on the current jersey.

It's a no-brainer.

His contract is up at the end of the season is his current cap hit is irrelevant to Van.

I think they'd be looking for more of a finisher.... maybe Baer? Depends if they think they're out of the playoffs or not.

I think people are only remembering this guy from that one playoff appearance he had against us. He disappeared the next round against the Ducks.  This guy doesn’t play any tougher than Jake does. His physical game is so inconsistent just like his goal scoring and it’s said to be rumoured that he’s looking for Tom Wilson money.  Watching the guy when he was a flame he’d make the fans so frustrating, skating around lifeless.  Unless Carolina is looking to get rid of him for cheap (which I know they aren’t). I’d want nothing to do with him.

the offers people are putting together for this guy....wtf seriously?

Come on guys he's

A.  A UFA at years end

B .  A solid middle 6 wrecking ball

But that's it.  Gordie frigging Howe you're essentially offering the farm for a younger Clutterbuck, except Ferland had the pleasure of playing with actual star players and padded his points as such

While I'd like to see Ferland on the team, I'd hope that Benning doesn't part with any draft picks to get him. And wouldn't want to see Jake going the other way.

Meh, I don't think he's got enough value on an expiring deal to pull Baer. Maybe with an in place (and reasonable) extension.

Firkland has peaked.

Pass, for rebuilding purposes.

Find a younger version.

This exactly.  Ferland is going to be close to 30 when our next core is really competing for top honors.  (2 to 4 more years of building and maturing)  Develop Jake in that role.  Jake hits like a truck, and is proving he can score.  It looks like Guddy is teaching him to fight too.

i think jake and 2019 2nd round pick would get a trade done

would need to be contingent on ferland signing a new contract

11 goals this year, 1.25 million salary next year and club control for 4 more years.

For

13 goals, pending UFA who is asking for Tom Wilson salary and 4.5 years older.

And we trade picks?

Canucks shouldn’t be paying the price it would take to acquire Ferland in a trade. However in free agency he’d be a great guy to go after. I’d take him on a Tom Wilson like contract. He’s proved he can produce with top players. You could put him with Pettersson and he’d actually stick up for him if somebody got in his face.

Reading everyones thoughts and i have to agree with the idea that Jake is really close to being a Ferland type.

He doesn't fight like Ferland, but he can skate circles around him and hits just as hard.

Its a dilemma as Ferland would bring a fighter into the Forward core, and at times it appears we need it.

I miss Dorsett.

i'm not advocating acquiring ferland

my first post in this thread was clear about that

i do think that if a trade were to happen

that is the realistic cost

currently ferland is better then jake

so he would cost more

(and i do assume he is re-signed as part of this trade)

and you have to consider carolina's needs/perspective as well

jake is younger, more controlled, cheaper, and could be a ferland replacement

but less developed, inconsistent, and could still end up having a low ceiling

carolina has shown they are looking to reduce their salary commitments

and appear to not be interested in older / and or expensive players (jeff skinner, refusal to meet salary demands of their young player sent to calgary)

if you do not want to trade for ferland

i get that

but you will not get ferland for older higher salaried players

as other teams will offer better younger players

and trading cheaper canuck bottom 6 type players will not get the trade done

ps.. and yes jake does have 11 goals, has gone cold, and too high a percentage of his 11 were not quality goals, so that total flatters him

Ferland is on pace for 28 goals and 54 points this year. I don’t think we should trade Virtanen because come playoff time the kid is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams. I don’t think we should trade at all because that’s not where our team is but Ferland as a UFA wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Jake scores no goal - "what a bust"

Jake scores 10 goals last season - "Not a 20 goal scorer, what a bust"

Jake is on pace for 20 (despite a cold streak right now) - "The goals aren't pretty enough, sell him"

All this while improving his defensive play immensely.

What does Jake have to do to finally be appreciated here? There's 0% chance that I would trade Virtanen for Ferland even if Ferland is extended, nevermind us adding to it.
