Markstrom the co-MVP for Canucks?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Of course, Pettersson has to be in any MVP conversation... but steadily and consistently Jacob Markstrom has pushed his way into the conversation.

Game after game, period after period, he has elevated his game in a steady upwards curve.

Where was he at the beginning of the season?>  A lot of people were writing him off and saying he should be traded or replaced by Nilsson.  (not that Nilsson is a bad goalie)

He went through that bad period... where the losses were not his fault... and it was like going through a firestorm... it tempered and refined him and he emerged a changed goalie.

His big weakness in the past was his emotional instability... lack of confidence... lack of consistency...   ALL GONE NOW.

Maybe it won't be Demko who lifts the Cup... maybe it will be Marky.

Markstrom for the Masterton?  Guy has dug himself out of a huge hole.

So do we trade Markstrom or Demko assuming Markstrom becomes elite

The guy doesnt even have a .91 save percentage.  There may be many reasons for that both in his control and beyond his control, but I wouldn't call that a particularly great stat and certainly not one worthy of MVP contention.

I'm tickled pink about Markys recent play as well, but it's still a small sample size imo.

it's a nice management of assets to have a goalie coming into his prime as a young guy just breaks in.

in our case, we have two.

Something I have noticed when comparing Markstrom's stats to last year.

He used to be listed at 6'6" 195 lbs... now he is listed as 6'6" 206.... has he put on 10 pounds?

If he has, then that tells you something big has changed in his fitness routine and his approach... maybe again on the recommendation of the goalie coach Clarke?

A good goalie can always make a huge difference in team's performance. His last 2 months and a bit have been fantastic, but his first two were pretty sub-par. I'd still give it to both Bo and EP over Marky right now, though that could change in the final two months.

Gump Worsley and Charlie Hodge

Gerry Cheevers and Eddie Johnston

Grant Fuhr and Andy Moog

Chris Osgood and Mike Vernon/Dominik Hasek

You keep both.

Marky is playing some outstanding goaltending and when we get some "real" defensemen to help him, he will improve even more.

Real defensemen are the guys that knock people on their hinny before they get a good chance to shoot, they stay in the dangerous areas to prevent people from having grade A chances, they don't chase people around and get out of position.

Mr.Olli O. will help I'm sure and Mr.Quinn H. hopefully will be able to through his quickness.

With this years draft I would charge up on the defensemen and hope we hit a homerun on a legit Norris Trophy candidate.

GOOD FOR MARKY.

Three way tie with Pettersson, Markstrom and Ian Clark ::D

I agree 100% we are so lucky to have Ian Clark back in Vancouver again...These goalies are solid in net very technical on angles, rebounds and

he uses his big 6'6 frame much better....Just amazing watching him face 47 shots last night..

Markstrom 55 games next season  --6'6 - 29 yrs

Demko  27 games   -- 6'4 -- 23 yrs old

Dipietro - Utica -- 6'0  -- 19 yrs old..

Future in goal is very exciting...

Probably just seen how shredded Nilsson was and wanted to be as ripped as him.

Markstrom has been stealing us games for months now. This is like no Markstrom I’ve ever seen. I think he’s been one of if not the best goalie in the league for about 2 and a half months. He’s definitely a co-mvp for the year up to date.

There's nothing "co" about it.......Marky is the MVP at this point.  I love Petey, but they've managed when he's been injured.  They cannot manage without Markstrom

A mostly healthy team on front of him helps too

It isn't really pertinent but Nilisson is playing lights out as well 6W 4L .937 save % and 2.21 GA.

Swedish commentator says: "he is almost too good, it is almost unfair to have such a player on your team"

What happens when he gets tired? Will he ever get a rest?

He is certainly more than worthy of MVP consideration.

well, you and I have been calling Marky a #1 (or would be) since he got here, so it feels good to see him reaching his potential.
